The Pursuer and the Pursued
The red Chaika debuted in this episode, and my first thoughts upon seeing her were she's tsun-tsun
Ok. I infer that in that world there are at least five Chaikas counting the white and the red ones, according to Red Chaikas' companions stating that during their travels they met up with three other girls calling themselves Chaika. Not that it is interesting by itself, but white Chaika reacted with a bit of surprise upong learning of Red Chaika gathering the remains, bearing a coffin (bit of different than hers), and that she goes by the name of Chaika. On the other hand, red Chaika is not surprised about the white Chaika likely because of previous encounters with the other Chaika girls. The Red claims to be the true Chaika while the others (including White) are fakes. What I want to make note is that the ending video gives nice hints on Chaika. More pronounced are that both Red and White have the same scar around the necks, and that means the other Chaika girls out there sport the same scar as well. Spoiler:

Watched my first episode of the Chaika anime.
There are things which I enjoy because they are genuinely awesome, and there are things that I weirdly... enjoyed (?) because it is so horrible. This week's episode falls into the latter... Not only did the episode shrinked a whole volume of the novel into a single episode, it has failed to capture the essence of that particular volume (an exploration of relationship and trust: what happened in the novels was also darker). The whole Gilette scene was just hilarious. When he entered the scene with a glare on his head I always thought he went bald! They have did not anime my favorite scene in the novel (you can read it in the LN thread). |

I get what you mean, but from an anime-only watcher's point of view it flows nicely without being too obtrusive. There are sacrifices that an adaptations has to go through, and the godamn episode count is the worst limiter of them all. They could give this volume more episodes, but that would come at a cost of the latter volumes. I'm just glad that they whip out a highly enjoyable episode without ruining the whole experience. I much prefer anime writer do this instead of cram everything half-assly and fail at delivering the message. It also encourages people to try out the LN as well considering that this episode is quite well-liked from the feedback I'd seen across the internet so far.

Its a case of a drop out between focusing too much on the main characters and too less of the secondary characters. Each Hero's backstory could have easily take up to 3-5 episodes. However, there are 12 of them and there are many other things in the story more worth exploring. |

Felt - means giving impression, Sort of - means not completely Ish - makes clear it is similiar but not completely same. I am not sure if you think I am idiot or want me think you are. Anyway it wouldn't make difference if they just found it on road side. Quote:

So after 8 episodes I have to wonder, how does that wire connect to Chaika's body? (the one she uses to power the car and The Gundo).
Is it part of her anatomy? EDIT I mean I can see from the ED that it hooks into her neck, but like have they explained in any greater detail how this works?

Have to respectfully disagree with EroKing regarding ep 8 because to me this ep was very obviously a transitional one, but an ep of world building, of development of the story background. Then again, he may be enjoying different parts of this plucky and engaging series than I am, and tastes differ after all. ^^
Anyway, I am liking this series more and more, seriously more and more - and even if it may have its flaws now and again (or perhaps weaknesses would be a better word for my experience of it so far), I find it extremely enjoyable and love the slow buildup of the setting and backstory. Also I am finally beginning to get faint glimmers of general similarities in terms of how the story is being unfolded (as opposed to the data of the story, at least for now) to Scrapped Princess that was being spoken of by other posters in the early eps of this series. And for me that is good - because while the metaplot of Scrapped Princess was not overly engaging for me I thought it was very well told.

Seems like the show took a detour from another detour. The show's all about detours but when it strays too far from the main path, it gets pedestrian real fast. This episode still had a bunch of hearty laughs but again it also displayed the same the pattern where it tried to tie things up a little too perfectly.
Obviously, the show's striving to create stand alone episodes that tell self-contained short stories while sprinkling tidbits of information about the overarching plot but clearly it's not able to pull it off in a way that's emotionally satisfying. Anyway, we learned some more about the Gaz emperor, and guess what? Apparently, he's some mad genius inventor who invented pretty much everything under the sun that runs on magic. And going by how little the people seem to know about the man himself, I think it's safe to assume that he might've been a shut-in whose sole interest lied in fiddling with his doodads. So the freaks who dismembered/harnessed his body for enormous magical power might actually be spreading false rumors in order to cover up their evil deeds. I doubt it's as simple as that but there's definitely more to Gaz than what we had formerly assumed. |
