You know, I usually work as an "exempt employee" or a "consultant" so none of this crap applies to me... but its meant to protect hourly workers from abuse by very creative weasels who manage.

That use to be one of my early day complaints. Forced breaks. By law you have to take lunch. My complaint at the time was that I worked six hours a day, starting after I would normally eat and I would have dinner when I got home. My body didn't need a 30 lunch during that time. I was pefectly fine working through it as long as I got the shorter 10 minute break to rest and get some water.
There are places were I can still do minor stuff on lunch (like check emails, or lookup something we might want to order), though HR would rather we did nothing and some suggested that you must be forced to not work. The company cannot make you work during your lunch, but if you wish to work during your lunch, that is your problem...not theirs. At least that is what I'm getting out of this.

*shhh* The most unhygienic place in an office is not the washroom but the desk and keyboard/mouse. I stamp all my structural drawings with coffee stains. |

I think the keyboard and mouse are naturally more unhygenic. Some of my friends are currently doing their dissertation on what bacteria grow on the keyboards in our University's PC clusters and they've found some pretty interesting stuff...

I think Vietnam now has its own answer to Keanu Reeves. Anyway, they should give that cop a medal and a promotion; only a few cops would ever take themselves that far to catch offenders.
