Talk about bad timing: surfacing fisherman killed, just as deranged man jumps off from a bridge, and lands onto his head.

What the fuck? Its a mandatory law and the ones who encourage abuse aren't on tab to "enforce" it?

Quote:
The opinion written by Associate Justice Kathryn Werdegar explained that state law does not compel an employer to ensure employees cease all work during meal periods. It stated that while employers are required to free workers of job duties for a 30-minute meal break, the employee is at liberty to use the time as they choose even if it's to work, she wrote.
Wait for the employee reviews when they're told they aren't "team players" for being more pro-active on lunch breaks....

You know, I usually work as an "exempt employee" or a "consultant" so none of this crap applies to me... but its meant to protect hourly workers from abuse by very creative weasels who manage.

That use to be one of my early day complaints. Forced breaks. By law you have to take lunch. My complaint at the time was that I worked six hours a day, starting after I would normally eat and I would have dinner when I got home. My body didn't need a 30 lunch during that time. I was pefectly fine working through it as long as I got the shorter 10 minute break to rest and get some water.

There are places were I can still do minor stuff on lunch (like check emails, or lookup something we might want to order), though HR would rather we did nothing and some suggested that you must be forced to not work. The company cannot make you work during your lunch, but if you wish to work during your lunch, that is your problem...not theirs. At least that is what I'm getting out of this.

Aye, I've worked in places where they were flexible (want to roll your breaks and lunch into a one hour lunch? fine with us) and places where they were frantic about you staying in the break room or leaving the building and they standing with a stop watch. There's probably no right set of rules here because there will always be managers who shouldn't be...

Legalise "eat-in-the-office" and I am fine with this.

Phuong was arrested for allegedly acting against public officials, an offense that carries a maximum three-year prison sentence, the officer said. He previously served nearly four years in prison for a fatal traffic accident, and was released in 2010.
Why isn't the bus driver an ambulance driver, and the policeman a SWAT commando?

*shhh*

The most unhygienic place in an office is not the washroom but the desk and keyboard/mouse.

I stamp all my structural drawings with coffee stains.

I think the keyboard and mouse are naturally more unhygenic. Some of my friends are currently doing their dissertation on what bacteria grow on the keyboards in our University's PC clusters and they've found some pretty interesting stuff...

Heh...... I want to watch the first congressman that agrees to see them. But this is kind of odd.... they are a *political* party. Are there Republican Party lobbyists? Green Party lobbyists? o.O

They might think than they would have more influence as lobbyist than as politicians and it could be true.

I think Vietnam now has its own answer to Keanu Reeves. Anyway, they should give that cop a medal and a promotion; only a few cops would ever take themselves that far to catch offenders.
