Although I'd had exposure to anime-related stuff on the web for a while, I didn't start watching any until less than a year ago (my old comp was so ancient with a tiny HD that downloading anime was out of the question for a long time). I finally ended up watching Magipoka after constantly seeing Liru threads on the various chans; I loved it, and that got me started watching anime regularly

My first "oh hay wats dis on Cartoon Network" was back in my childhood-y days is Pokemon. But that was just a passing fad.
My first "wow, a series" anime was FMP FUMOFFU! Naturally, I backtracked to a subbed FMP. I was really surprised at how better the voices all fit the characters with Japanese, so I stuck. |

In terms of less Americanized: it was (within one day) Dirty Pair OAV series. I was blown away. The music - the James Bond-style J-pop opening to the series - was the biggest single impression. In combination with the cute girls-with-guns video, it said "this is more like US comic books, it's nothing like American kids animation - people cared about this show." It was a huge sense of STYLE. The same day I went on to watch Mobile Suit Gundam episode 1 and was impressed by how they handled zero gravity in a realistic way - something you rarely see in any live action movie, even - and the sensible depiction of space colonies. The mecha were cool, but the point was that people were using anime to tell cinematic stories in a stylish faction. I liked that. And then the same day I watched Cream Lemon: Pop Chaser, which had its own appeal (: |

Unlike many russian otakus, who say their first anime was sailor moon, my first was Pokemon. And I don't see anything stupid and funny in it, like JustInn14, even now I watch the latest Pokemon movies, hehe x)
I saw Sailor Moon when I was about 11 I think...And just one or two episodes, they didn't get me into. |

If I remember correctly, it should be Sailor Moon (dubbed) I was still a kid back then and totally didn't know that it was a Japanese animation.
The first anime I watched KNOWING it is an anime is Love Hina. It still holds a special place in my heart |
