Yeah I have no idea what you said. The game I played most was Gunz: The Duel, more of an MMO third person shooter. Though there was leveling and purchasable items in the store. FFXIV will be my actual first MMORPG.

If I was just a casual player I'd agree with you, but the deal here is that most F2P MMOs, the endgame players are subsidizing the rest of the playerbase. It's not any sort of big mystery why someone like me would hate F2P games; we're essentially paying the subscription fees of everyone who doesn't spend money in the shop... and that's not exactly fair.
It also doesn't help that with some free MMO, some mechanism is tweaked in such a way that you either solo farm for a long time (system might be changed to make it extremely tedious) or u open ur wallet. For example, Dragon Nest SEA. Farming solo for item and in game gold is extremely limited with the introduction of the fatigue system last year, resulting in like half the item drop the moment you empty that bloody bar. Heck, the whole system have players using lots of mana for every action except for the useless normal attacks.

As an aside, I don't actually want F2P games gone. I think they have a place in the market; I just wish the place wasn't the WHOLE market.

I own GW2 and I keep it around for when I feel like messing around in it. I'd probably play it more often if I had a guild, but I don't know any guilds that'd really want to have someone who plays maybe five hours a week at most.

Subscription games are the ones I play daily or nearly so, the ones I log into intending to put the time in. With ARR, I'm running an endgame Free Company and I'm in it for the long haul--so long as the microtransactions stay far, far away.

square enix launched the official ff xiv forums and they put a few posting limits depending on what level your character is

FFXI didn't even have dedicated forums, so even a restricted forum is an improvement... considering how you look at it.

Personally I think official forums are just cesspits of inane trolling.

^Same, which is why I think they made it limited a bit.

I have to say they're starting to make me cranky with all the emails I'm getting telling me what to do with my pre-order code (including opening up the pre-order download site) but still no actual pre-order code. Blergh...

I ordered a digital copy from Digital River. I have the pre-order for the silly Cait stuff, they're suppose to send me my pre-order code for the game "soon".

edit: oh, I'm an idiot (or rather, their english sucks). The Cait pre-order code is the game client early access code. Derp

Several hoop jumps later to get the actual game copy code, downloading the game (yeah, I know I could have used the beta 4 client but I had idiotically deleted that).

I can't patch yet. They're making me wait until launch.
