Licia is a definite treat. I was curious what kind of person she'd end up being. But she really did end up being the best. Good natured girl that has an adorable kind of ambition. And yet she has great diplomatic skill/potential and an ability that makes her especially suited for it. On a practical level Ars couldn't ask for better. She can cover for any awkwardness on his part. Heck, combining his ability to see talent with her ability for negotiation...they really could take the whole damn continent! He scouts the talent and she brings them in! They'll be a power couple that will shake things up.
Also I kind of love that while she can read people...she didn't really need that with Ars. His suspicion was so apparent that any idiot would be able to see it . But it really worked out well. Allowed her to momentarily move past her tactical ambitions to make someone fall for her and instead just naturally falling herself. Although her charms definitely landed so no problems there . Sorry to Charlotte, but she may have to give up any personal ambitions she had . A cute episode overall. I liked the little chat they had in the evening. Really let them clear the air nicely.

I thought Charlotte's suggestion(becoming Ars' wife) is supposedly teasing, as Ars stated. It is reasonable that Charlotte wants to get near Ars and her childhood friends. Since she is assigned as the army captain, she has to be away frequently. Since Ars gave her hope(saving her from becoming some corrupted noble's lover), she probably has plan for her own future. It is probably why she has bickering with Ritsu. Ritsuhas the ability of a general and field marshal, but Ars assigns him to be his personal secretary. Charlotte probably thinks Ritsu has easier time. Otherwise, the bickering is just a slapstick humor of the show.

I even faintly recall some WN author saying in their notes that they only did their story as an isekai because it's what's hot right now. |

If anything, if his past life doesn't matter, I think its just the author making an excuse as to not have to write a believable kid mindset and just wants to have regular logic for a character that's suppose to be like 10 in a noble upbringing.

Lord Raven is at death's door, and as if to make an already precarious situation worse, the governor has been assassinated and war is about to break out in a succession crisis! And Ars is caught in the middle .
Ars is trying to take a load off of his father by meeting with Lord Lumeire, though Charlotte and Rietz stand out more than he does. "Lady of Flame" and the "Reaper of Louvent" are some fantastic titles, even if Rietz isn't self-aware of how on-point his name is . Ars' first real political meeting! He even gets offered a cookie by Krall! But Lord Lumierre and his aide Menas seem like reasonable and noble sorts, and Ars has to do his part as a budding leader . Oh hey, Licia's dad! Hermann is pretty intimidating, but deep down he's just a doting father who wants to do right by his daughter and make her happy, and he can see the impact Ars has had on her and wants Ars to treat her right. She deserves that much . Ars is putting his all into training and getting ready to lead the troops, but is he cut out for this? Is he ready for a true military engagement when he can't even win a mock battle ? Ars' naivety and inexperience really comes to ahead when Lord Raven steps out and drives home how he just isn't ready for this...especially when he hasn't come into his own as a warrior and can't stomach a beheading of an unrepentant criminal, the first death he's ever seen. How is Ars going to succeed his father if he can't handle this ?

Mentally, Ars has work experience of the office worker. So, he talks like a grown up. Ars is sheltered from violence, even he is the would be successor. He has never witness the killing before this episode. The public execution was supposedly a popular theme in middle age shows.
It is odd he hasn't received the knight training, which involved page boy and castle defense. Having him as the mere observer at the battlefield is still too much for him. At the current pace, it is still too much for him. He is left to stay behind. It is also odd, because his three young retainers accompany his father to war. |

What I don't get is why didn't Ars' father take him along on this campaign to see what war is really like. He can stay behind the scenes with Rosel, and stay far away from the frontlines. At the very least, he can gain valuable experience while his dad is still alive. Still, when his dad inevitably dies, he will have to take action. I want to see what happens then. Also, I'm pretty sure that by marrying Lycia, if she is an only child, then Ars will eventually take over her territory. As to how he will eventually take over Missian, maybe the brothers will eventually kill each other over the governorship of Missian? Then, of course, he will take over Seitz for continually invading his territory. This brings back memories of the original Utawarerumono, which was an awesome series.

There is also the fact that, Rosell and Ars would both have different roles. Rosell would mostly stay in the background and analyze situation from far away. Plus he is a the son of a Hunter, even if he isn't used to seeing people die, she should be more acceptable to the concept of death. Also for Ars, he would have to be on the front-line, or atleast somewhere close enough to see what's going on so that he would gain enough experience to be a commander. And this would require them to alot people to him which could cause issue for a small army. Plus bringing Ars might distract others, especially Rietz and Charlotte. Quote:
There is also the fact that, Licia's dad is still alive and kicking, so he can still have more heirs.

Would've been funny if his dad was seeing him as untested and unready so he brings the criminal out and before he's even done talking about sentencing, Ars walks up and jams his knife into the guys neck. Turns to dad, with a big grin and blood on him and is like "I took out the trash father, what's next?" lol Dad would be like shit, now I'm concerned about something else
On a more serious note, dad picked a bad choice anyway. If I wanted to test the mettle of my son in this kind of thing, I wouldn't pick a stereotypical scum criminal. The dude going on about whatever it was he was saying (can't remember now) would, if anything, make it easier for the kid to do it. I'd try to find the most benign, innocent looking criminal that would weep and beg for mercy. That would be a real test of his mental fortitude. |
