So I finally read through chapters 51-54 and... God damn! Seriously, did he just bite the dust like that? Well that was one of the most unexpected deaths I've ever read about, my hat, feet's and hands off for even daring to do that. Fucking awesome, but yet strangely sad.
Spoiler for spoiler:
Is it just me, or does this manga keep getting better and better, both story and art wise? The detail that went into those last chapters must have taken ages to make. |

I agree.. I also think it was pretty messed up how he acts towards his mother... Or more correctly, When the old man was telling about how sick his mother is and so on... He seemed apathetic about it (at least to me).. |

I think it's quite the opposite.
Back when Leif was talking about his mother and sister, Thorfinn knew that remembering them would make him start questioning his resolve to get revenge, because he actually missed them. Which made him feel threatened (which is why he tried to get Leif drop that topic and talk about Vinland), which in turn made him angry. (Or at least that's how I understood it)

People have recommended that this manga is really good and I'm interested to start reading. However, I don't want to read something that's just hack and slash, is there any romance at all in the world of Vinland Saga? I mean even Guts in Berserk had a relationship.

I just had a marathon reading this yesterday and was pleasantly surprised how good it was, tho there are a few things that irked me. Like the ridicules power of the main characters.
It's a good series overall and I'll definitely keep on reading and hopefully It'll get better as this was apparently just the prologue. |

Pretty depressing (for Thorfin) when you put it like that, lol. |

Oh dear... a 7-volume prologue. The art is ridiculously detailed (the hair!), and I'm very, very impressed by the writing.
By the way guys, I recommend reading this while listening to E.S. Posthumus. The semi-historical epicness fits too well. |
