Also, an emotional manipulation alert triggered for me when the 1st Giftia retrieval Tsukasa & Isla handled together happened to be a little moe girl and the person which she "belonged" to was an old lady. Of course there are cases like that so it wasn't really a problem, but I just hope the show doesn't make a habit out of it. Will be giving this one at least 4-5 episodes, though I'd hope to stick with it 'till the end. |

Not as bad as I thought. Not that I had any reason to think it was bad, beforehand either though. Overall... I think I mainly just found the heroine(?) to be cute. The whole setting is so "I'm trying to make you cry", which is more or less okay, but... I didn't cry, so meh, I guess. But the heroine was cute, and it wasn't too bad.

That said... Good start to the season I guess, for this series. Even though that "I need to take a leak" at the end kind of... Ooookay, whatever floats your boat, but I kind of liked it.

As for the old lady from this episode, I'm seriously afraid for her. Lots of old people get depressed and lose their will to live after someone dear is taken from them. |

Giftia's sure are intriguing.
This looks like an interesting story. Not the happiest one though.. but has its fun moments. Still... it's definitely something different. That Isla sure has some issues going on.. The story certainly has potential. Will give it a try.

My tears are going to be dried up at the end of this season.. considering the possibility that I might cry every week because of this!
I also said it is a good balance between drama and comedy.. It gave me good laugh Is it possible in the future they might extend the lifespan? T___T I don't want to see Isla get shutted down... Although considering that they might be re-started again.. memories could be recovered from her diary |

Definitely an interesting show.
Of course there are 2 things that stand out as specific questions in this show. First, is the 9 1/3 year limit real? I do believe it is real in that the program and hardware limitations are there. There is only so much space you can put on a hard drive, and the program probably is set to expire intentionally. As for using cloud space, that is too dangerous a proposition. The idea of mixing up millions of Giftea in cloud space is just a disaster waiting to happen in so many different ways (i.e. potential misuse, theft of data, possible A.I. creation, etc.). I actually believe they could copy over the personality matrix and partial summary memory, which would reduce a renew lifespan to say 4.5 years if they wanted to (so get Giftea gets renewed every 4.5 years), but they chose not to do so for business reasons. The other issue is Isla. We know she is a veteran that was formerly decommissioned, but why? Did she actually surpass the 9 1/3 year deadline, or is she approaching it? The errors she says would indicate that as a possibility that she is already over 9 1/3 years. I'm sure they will explore her dynamics as the story goes on.

When Edward was taken out of commission it was mentioned that the need for the owners to witness the decommissioning in person was because the Giftias stored lots of personal information. Going by that you can also make the case against cloud storage.

But I'm sure at least one of the squad's members knows what happens when the retrieval deadline is crossed. |

Hmm ... I had never thought the "errors" were a possible indication of the end of her lifetime. Guess it could be, though. My assumption was basically the same as cyth's.

Facebook for example is notorious for breaking EU data protection law, yet people in the EU still use it. Google chrome has been found to spy pout your browing field, in the past yet a lot of peoiple still use it. Quote:
Other than that its probably Big company wants cash. Its actually pretty close to a real brain. As time goes on your memories will slowly get foggy. The problem is that your character and personality are made up from the sum of what you have experienced throughout live. I suggest playing/reading 'Tesla Effect' on it - it shows what can actually happen if you loose several years worth of memories.

Or thats why the retrival Unit is so small. Highly advanced product but the time limit and iffy data security puts most people off buying them. |

I don't like the idea of copying/transferring old memories to a new android. Such action can lead to security and privacy breach. Can owners really rest assured that there will only be 1 copy made in total? Besides, just like that obaasan said, that kind of treatment will make Giftia nothing short of a mere object. Memories need to be treated with respect.
Anyway, great start for an original story, it surprisingly brought tears to my eyes without me noticing. The end was such a killjoy though. |
