Episode 3:
Good episode as a way of building up the story. At first, my impression of Nat wasn't that good but by the end of this episode, he really did shown honest concern about Riko's well-being. He realizes that they may are likely to never see again once Riko turns that journey to the Abyss. Really sad if you think about it considering they are kids and they only have each other. (well and Leader I guess) Also, the world fiction of this series (at least from the descriptions told through storytellling so far) sounds very interesting.

I must say
Why is this so damn good? I was about to cry for a farewell that happened in 3 episodes, that shit is usually reserved for about 12 episodes of buildup but I got so invested in Nat and the others. This story has life in it, I can feel it breathe.

I really wish the orphanage kids would just stick together, they have some great chemistry and fun interaction together. In fact I feel like Nat interactions works better with Reg and Riko, than the latter two do with each other. Which is kind of worrying because Reg and Riko will have to carry the show from this point on. Unless that bunny girl in the ending gets introduced sooner rather than later to spice things up.

A great set up. The more and more I hear about the Abyss, the more and more, I get the same feelings that I got reading Journey to the Center of the Earth or seeing the movie, King Solomon's Mines.
But like the person who left the clues and messages in Verne's classic, I have a feeling that Riko's mom too, is long dead. I actually wasn't mad at Nat at all for saying what he did, as I would have probably said the same thing in an effort to knock some since into my idiot, naive friend. His words were kind of exactly what I was thinking. However, we all knew they would go down anyway, so let's see where it takes them. I'm interested in seeing all these new lands. I was afraid though for the little baby kid. Him saying that he was always sleepy recently, and it was his birthday soon, scares me. And also, something is up with tall these skeletons "in prayer". Something really not right here.

A bit slow, honestly they should have left since episode 2. Not that I think it's bad or anything but this is just 13 episodes, so we're 1/4 though already.
The orphanage thing feels like Riko's backstory that she should just have narrated in the boring times.

This is the only thing that irked me about this episode. I mean they've pretty much built up the Abyss as practical suicide full of horrible things so wouldn't it actually make sense to lock her up at least until she's an adult if that's what it takes? I'm not sure the Leader made the right call there if he actually did know.

Realistically the only thing I think that would work and have any sort of sticking force is if Leader has some way to show them that they aren't anywhere close to ready to make the journey. Talking isn't going to work, they have to experience the fact that they can't even handle the first layer, let alone get to the bottom layer for them to understand they need to get better before going. Normally I'd say this is the situation where he'd be following them from the shadows to swoop in and save them when they get in over their heads, but I'm not sure that's going to happen here. He has all the other kids to look after too, so it's not like he can take a prolonged leave to follow those two around.

Have liked this so far and want to continue, but am worried because people have said that this gets dark soon.
Not sure what they mean, but without spoilers is it possible to elaborate on the dark part? Like is this going to turn into to a horror genre because i don't do well with those.

That's my impression, anyway, based on the look and feel of what we've seen so far. |
