@Marina2, keep them coming! Thanks for sharing. I am guessing the next one will be third years (currently graduated).
@deadite: Yep. Almost everything that came out, be it promotional videos, promotional images, merchandises, collector editions etc. after the end of season 2 has been about Kumiko and Asuka. Even the official website is all about Kumiko and Asuka.

Well, the Kumiko-Reina relationship was mostly an anime-thing. I mean, they were really good friends in the novel, but not nearly as close as they were portrayed in the anime. Yamada literally made the first season revolve around their relationship for not reason whatsoever. It just painted a false picture and created unreasonable expectations.

I wonder if they removed Mamiko altogether from this movie as well like they did for the first one.

Nice. Nice tone too. Looks like the entire site recently underwent an overhaul. Advance ticket sales to start January 6. Details, including images of tickets, bonus material (Clear file). Like how the earlier imagery can still be found, here and there.

Those are quite unique art style.
Article about the movie (included translated Synopsis) https://manga.tokyo/news/new-sound-e...r-and-visuals/ EDIT: Whoa, look like Silent Voice staff are working on this movie.

Didn't arrive at the beginning. First designs I encountered were in the promotional images for the first season of the animated TV series. Was not introduced to these people until quite late in the process, in other words. Those first impressions have coloured my expectations and how I still imagine these characters ever since ... but it has always been interesting to see the different takes, from different illustrators. Re-imagening is such a big element of Hibike! in all its formats. In shaping perception. How drastic could changes be before they become intolerable for certain members of the audience?
The numbers employed, the naming convention in this scheme of things, can be an interesting aspect of trying to figure out what is being talked about at this point as well. What constitutes the beginning? What counts as the first movie? How do you count the ones after that? Is 1:『劇場版 響け!ユーフォニアム~届けたいメロディ~』(Todoketai Melody)? Thus 2? 『響け!ユーフォニアム』完全新作映画 - みぞれと希美の物語 (which became Liz and the Bluebird) and 3? 『響け!ユーフォニアム』完全新作映画 - 2年生になった久美子たち (Unchanged?) ... or does the film count start with: 1. 劇場版 響け!ユーフォニアム~北宇治高校吹奏楽部へようこそ~ (Welcome to the Kitauji High School Concert Band), for those of you who refer to them by the numbers? Based on theatrical releases. |

Based on the content of the second and final of the two new volumes, that concludes the story of Kumiko in her second year, Liz to Aoi Tori will be directly related to the second new movie. After reading the synopsis in the official site, the first new movie is definitely a prologue to the second one as the problem mentioned in the synopsis is extended to what Kumiko had to deal with in her second year, that would also involve Reina. But as we discussed before, I wasn't expecting the animation style to change this much. Including the character designs. Quote:
I am a big fan of Asada Nikki, and I read many of her manga, in fact, I am following three of her manga right now (she is one of the few mangaka who draw multiple manga at the same time), yet only after Hibike! Euphonium was made into an anime, I knew that she was the one who designed Kumiko, Reina, Asuka, Shuuichi and the co. in the novel and in the anime. But the new designs in Liz to Aoi Tori are far from her original designs. Not that I am complaining. I am usually more inclined to story than the designs or animation. As a matter of fact, I would have missed out on some of the better anime out there if I was too into designs. However, not everyone is very accommodating when they get used to designs. I have seen people complaining in the past and Hibike! is gonna face the same. It already is. Just see the comments by a good number of Japanese fans on yt, twitter, nico, 2ch etc. They wanted Kyoto Animation to keep the original style as in the TV series.

Announced earlier today, "Todoketai Melody" will get its Blu-ray and DVD release on March 7, 2018.
Edit to add: For a brief period only, the "Welcome to the Kitauji High School Concert Band" and "Todoketai Melody" films will also be shown again in Tokyo, at special screenings with emphasis on sound quality for audiophiles. Also linking Ultimatemegax translation of the synopsis and other film specific introductory notes from the "Liz and the Blue Bird" website. Last edited by Verso Sciolto; 2017-12-22 at 19:00. |

I made a post about winning an autograph board in the past, but this time it's an illustrated autograph board! One and only illustration of Asuka (when she was an elementary schooler) in the world drawn by character designer, Shoko Ikeda.
There was a campaign to get prizes by sending Hibike movie theater tickets. For A-prize, three winners could get a board with their favorite character's illustration and very happily I was one of them. |
