Matoi did called her parents Mama and Papa when she was in kindergarden, representing to the class that she wants to be happily live with them.
Matoi is not thinking of replacing her mother until Shiori comes back or something while Matoi to comfort her father is she? It maybe just way of Matoi calling her father by his nickname or something. |

Of course, it still isn't a great reason normally, but this is anime.

Yuma officially the best girl in this show but Matoi still my favorite so far.
Finally there is an explanation why Matoi called her dad with his name, apparently they got distance relationship before or that i perceived. We finally see the villain in the OP, well he is kinda similar to Millenium Earl. |

Eventhou Claris transformation is not a god, If I'm not wrong Claris's is actually Odin and confirmed to be one after she used the lighting spear. Anyway Claris really is op op, especially that final skill matching the ost.
Luciela-sensei and the creeds are not the same department from the start huh but they seem to know each other.

i lost it that English lesson part where Yuma mistranslated "Tom's older sister has a dog" in Japanese as "Tom is his older sister's dog", when Matoi asks what kind of relationship the siblings had, Yuma responded that they had a kinky relationship......um, Yuma, where did you find such things?.........

Episode 3 So I guess we will be seeing a lot of Matoi naked in public and trying to get out without being spotted. Lol her topless streak got so many views on YouTube. Her life will be so ruined if people find out the identity of the topless mahou shoujo. That English class lol. Yuma and her mistranslation. And that woman started off with a "bonjour" lol. Some English teacher. She probably forgot that this wasn't english before saying it. And she was talking about the exorcist girl while looking at Matoi and she was like "why're you looking at me?" We also learn about the relationship between Matoi and Shingo. Matoi lived away from Shingo all this time and only recently started living with him which is why she's uncomfortable in calling him "dad". And now Matoi knows that Shingo does think about mama so maybe she'll start calling him "dad" soon. Shingo knows that they're not that close which is why he stopped when he was about to scold her for being too close to something dangerous. And why did Matoi even go near that dangerous beam of light when she doesn't want anything to do with all this nonsense? She should really learn to say "no" to Yuma. And now the sensei knows that Matoi is the topless mahou shoujo. And those who were observing her have now met her too. And they're up against some weird fat guy. This is getting slightly interesting but it still feels pretty bland overall. The comedy is getting a bit okayer. I'm gonna give it one more episode before deciding its fate. |

Gotta say I really liked this episode, specially because of the pacing: only 3 episodes in and all the players are already meeting, and as previously said, motivations are being exposed, or in Matoi's case, developed. Personally, I was expecting for a lot of doucheness from Claris' side until things got to this point, but I'm glad to be wrong, specially because Yuma needs to catch up. Also, glad to finally get a reason as to why Matoi acts so distant with her dad. Of course, the characters also worked very well this episode, and that first part with Matoi and Yuma was just hilarious and adorable. Oh, and the ED is great. |

Yup, we did get a background story about Claris for episode 4. Not a very pleasant one though considering someone she cared about got killed by the Creed Killer.
Matoi's powers surprises me and herself somewhat. Hope she is able to master it soon. At least Claris is able to get revenge this time. Also, next week's episode looks like fun.

I don't really see a different in age between Matoi and her transformed state (in that she still looks like a kid)
But everyone comments on how they see her an adult in her transformed state like "why does she age when she transforms" or something like that. Thought that was interesting, kind of also makes the first episode less creepy in the Dad actually does think at first his wife came back if she really does look grown up.

I am smelling another Day Break illusion. As in, this is a show with theoretically high dramatic stakes and potentially dark material and clearly a Post-Madoka show with reasonably competent execution within a single episode with mild flaws that wants to explore some themes rarely explored in a "normal" magical girl show. But the show somehow fail to pull it together overall between each episode because all those small flaws and slightly too thin characterizations ultimately weigh the entire series down.
Now that it seems that the two parallel series plot going on at the same time is about to converge upon one another, it remains to be seen where Matoi will be heading towards next. I suspect the awful twist in this show, is that everytime you use the Divine Regalia, a bit of yourself goes into that Regalia and if you suffer catastrophic body damage, your entire mind and soul get's uploaded and assimilated into the Regalia. The hint this episode, is when the antagonist mentions he has Claus old partner with him in the bracelet that represents that partner's divine regalia. The dark twist is possibly that Matoi's mother was a Divine Union user, was defeated in a mission and had her mind consumed by her Divine Regalia. Which happens to be the same Divine Regalia Matoi is using, which means Matoi is literally wielding an entity that's partly her mother (and several other prior users fused into the original higher dimension being in a gestalt hive mind) into combat. |

Episode 4
So we get some background for Clarus and her reason for wanting to kill the Creed Killer. And she gets her revenge with slight help from Matoi (she acted as bait only). And Clarus has opened up a bit to Matoi even though she told herself that she wouldn't get close to anyone else again as to not get the same feeling she got upon losing Flors. The problem here is that we're four episodes in and I don't see where this is headed yet. Will this be focusing only on Matoi and her development? Will this be about the Nights and whatever even though neither us nor the characters know anything about them? Will this have something to do with those regalia only? They haven't yet made their direction clear and we're supposedly going into an SoL episode next week. They have introduced things but nothing is feeling intriguing at all. I mean, even Flip Flappers is more clear than this for how crazy and random it looks. And this show isn't giving me vibes that something big will happen later on or something either. The anime's not coming off as mysterious or something. Really poor presentation of everything here. There really isn't anything holding me down over here. |

oh man, how many Anti-Creed members actually fell victim by the Creed killer? that's like a lot of bracelets that he collected from his victims including Flors' & then he was somehow defeated swiftly with the aid of Matoi's powers? i was expecting him to be a reoccurring villain with more depth to his origins thus his connection with Clarus, that was a bit anti-climatic.

I'm kind of surprised at the negative reaction to Episode 4 and/or this show in general.
I thought Episode 4 was splendid! It was highly entertaining, and very engaging. It did a great job of weaving Claris' backstory into ongoing conflicts/events in the present tense. The visuals were frequently glorious, and the overall dynamic between Matoi and Claris was very well-handled. Action scenes were rock solid while also being amusingly theatrical. And what really made this all work well was Creed Killer. Very fun villain with a great villainous character design! But then, this does tie into a possible problem for the show going forward. Like Global Sword 2, I expected Creed Killer to be a good recurring villain. It feels like his character is woefully underutilized by having him killed off so early. This is especially true given his importance in Claris' backstory. With Creed Killer dead, and Claris already having avenged Flors, where does the show go from here? Hopefully this show will have a good answer to that. Otherwise, the critics might end up being right after all.

Creed Killer didn't seem villain boss material. Who expected a silly looking design to be one? He was more like a competent pawn, I would hate to have him as the Team Rocket of this series.
Also Flors was powerful seeing how she easily blocked Clarus' attack aimed at Creed Killer but also too naive. I mean a guy who is known for killing her fellow organization members tries to talk to him, leaving herself defenseless. And that attack was over the top too. A gravitational field inside her body? The only reason she didn't explode was because of her union. I admit Matoi was starting to get on my nerves with her wanting to talk, good thing CK got killed with her taking an step aside instead of trying to lecture Clarus that fighting is wrong. Seriously, I hate when that happens. The direction isn't spoiled yet but I see the hints that are building up like the purpose of the demons coming to Earth dimension, Matoi's mother and the reason why conveniently her Omamori just so happened to give her powers. Oh, next episode preview shows Yuma actually had powers all along! But I guess that because of Yuma being Yuma, she got her powers sealed . |

Well, that was underwhelming. Everything just went by too fast, from Claris' warmup to Matoi pulling a huge powerup. Regardless, the trio is now complete, and it seems next week will bring us back to the funny stuff and give Yuma the upgrade she deserves, so its all good, and honestly, in a way I'm glad the situation got resolved already, since now I have no idea what's gonna happen next.
