@sa547: you're welcome.
While I do find this project interesting. With all do respect to this project, I don't quite see the purpose of this anime at least form the side of AKB48. The fact is that they are now by far the most popular music group in Japanmeans they don't need the anime to attract new fanbase not to mention their original/home fan base is the otaku crowd in Akihabara with many members are well known for being regular manga reader and some even self-proclaiming as otaku. On the other hand, anime industry could get some sort of boost from being directly associated with AKB48 considering the Akiba connection is more tied toward manga and games sides of ACG world.

They have more than enough bank for its honcho to dare himself to go further, and apart from this show, already their new Singapore satellite base is one of the signs of possible global expansion of the franchise (or at least within East Asia).

To be fair, he hasn't had a huge project for 3 years other than BASQUASH, but before that was Macross Frontier so it's not like he has a string of failures. Not to mention he is teaming up with Mari Okada a well-know screen-play writer who just come of two successful projects in AnoHana and HanaSaku and Yoshimasa Hiraike who's last two projects Working! and Amagami SS are also both critically acclaimed and commercially successful.
I don't know why I missed it, but Mayu Watanabe is apparently playing two roles, herself and one the 9 main character. Though, with her being by far the most popular of the 9 (overall ranking 4/5/5), me bet is that she gets the main role unless Akimoto is thinking about pushing someone else and Mayu's other appearances are too busy for her to take the lead role.
