You think Kuriyabashi's design is like an IDOL?

Wow.

Dude, I don't intend any sort of put down, but that design used for Kuribayashi looks nothing like any anime idol. Her design is far too average looking.

Thanks man. And yeah, I think you're right.

I do.

As do a lot of others who have read the other sources and adaptation of GATE before the anime. Frankly if you like anime designs that is totally fine, but stop trying to deny the opinions people who don't. This adaptation's designs have clearly been modified to have all females appear cuter (and pushes more fanservice over grit) to attract more otaku regardless of how much it makes sense in it's setting so obviously going to cause some controversy. It's perfectly fine for people not to enjoy aspects of an adaptation.

She actually does look like the Ami Mami twins from Idolm@ster.
I believe that's where the joke started from.

I will laugh if Kuribayashi's little sister has a sidetail on the opposite side of her head.
(Ami Mami twins have their side tails on opposite sides of their heads)

Wow. That blonde knight (what's her name, again?) is willing to do that?

BTW, a really good episode. A nice break from all the war stuff. The misunderstandings are so hilarious.

Can't wait for the next one.

Yes indeed - a pretty good ep.

Was kinda interesting to see the contrast for the maid design of the cat maid (as compared to the manga), but I thought it worked out pretty well on the whole.

Its a story regarding a military army going against a new world... Im not saying that it should be depressing the whole time, but in the same way I dont want something to be so bright and cheerful while looking how an entire army is annihilated, when they struggle to defend a town or major fight in the upcoming chapters. That thing is now way happy or something in that aspect, which I would like to be treated as how it should be.
I found funny the parts that were suppose to be funny, but lacking the ones that were suppose to be serious and kinda like depressing.

Oh shit. She kinda does look like Ami/Mami. Didn't even think of that.

Surprisingly, it actually comes as part of being the daughter of a noble family in that society: both her self and her body are recognized pieces of value in political maneuvering, and either or both can be given up if deemed necessary for the good of the Empire.

In regards to the image comparison issue, even though I started on the anime first, I have become partial to a majority of the manga designs once I read through it (although I happen to think that the images chosen in that large comparison picture are not the best choices to use for that). I think the only one I actually prefer in the anime, unfortunately for some of you arguers, is Kuribayashi, because I simply could not get into the butch version of her in the manga having first encountered her anime version. On the other hand, her anime version doesn't seem anywhere near as capable of the pure hand-to-hand berserker beatdown type of fighting that her manga version managed, so, who can say. But Persia, Rory, Lelei, Tuka, and so on, IN MY OPINION, look better in the manga.

As an anime viewer using only the comparisons posted in this thread, my vote goes to the LN designs... (Though Lelei in motion is just too cute.)

I personally prefer most of the anime designs. Mostly because it's what I got familiar with first since I didn't start reading the manga until after episode 5.

There are some exceptions. The overall design of their eyes I have a slight problem with. The designs Persia and the warrior bunny they showed in this episode is also a bit lacking compared to the manga. One big thing being that Persia doesn't have the cat eyes from the manga. Other then that I didn't have a problem with her design for the most part.

It's a lot like the dub vs sub debate. I go with what I saw/heard first. First impressions are important after all. If you like the manga designs better, that's fine. It's all just opinion in the end.

Hopefully we won't have an argument over this. (besides they have a manga vs anime comparison thread, so discussions like this are better served being posted there instead of here)

'It is a shame o give it to a man as small as itami' wow... congrats Crunchyrolls.
You managed to translate it in a way that it puts her words totally out of context together with the rest of the discussion

For anyone who hasn't realized it: She is probably speaking about his social status here.

Persia looks a lot better than in the manga imho.

That's how I took it. Itami being a minor officer rather than a big shot nobleman. What did you think she meant?

Since they're talking about having sex with him, the double-entendre seems obvious, at least to me.

So many discussions of each versions of characters designs.
I just don't know how long this kind of topic will be discussed in each episodes.
And not sure when the topic will fade.

When I think about it, Itami will be more beaten by females of the other world and races in the future.
It is going to be a trend that he will be always coming back to base with that kind of face.
Getting hit by female soldiers and getting treated by the female maids, of course he will like it.
But not the other way around in reverse order though.

We have a perfectly good comparison thread where differences between media can be discussed. Please move such discussion there and use the episode discussion threads for specific episode discussion.

Thank you.

Okay, seems that Pina forgot to inform to the rest of her knight order that the JSDF was not their enemy. While they made an apology for roughing up Lt. Itami, it doesn't help that it reminds me of those harsh circumstances in regards to prisoners of war.

On the other hand, it's funny that Bozes Co Palesti wants to seduce Lt. Itami just to forget that incident, only to be ignored as the JSDF came first!

I think the anime kinda ruined the princess character IMO. She has became a so generic princess now. Unlike her manipulative/ over-thinking/ over-analysing portrayed elsewhere

I afraid the next fighting screen will be cut or altered heavily through. Too much blood, and too political sensitive, and easy to face backslash from media
