I liked it.
Unless Kinzo (or Genji) is already dead, I think Beatrice messed up the death-order. The next one (after Kanon and Jessica) should have been "Gouge the head and kill", but Gohda was stabbed in the chest. Which means one of those two is probably already dead... or have I forgotten someone? |

Well as last time this situation is getting pretty bad. That mirror better be the most powerful thing in the universe or they are pretty much screwed. They are outnumbered and outgunned which is a bad combination.
Must be hard on Meta Battler to see 'himself' falling apart like that. Not the same powerful rejection of magic this time though the situation is different. This one has been all over "oh magic did it" plus Beatrice has made an appearance already so you can confirm that at least someone by that name is around. Even Meta Battler is struggling to keep in this. If it ends like this I'm not sure where the strength to fight another round will come from. It's great that Rosa trusts herself. Too bad at this point I wonder if anyone else does . Giving that woman a gun just seems like a bad idea to me.

Also, notice that Beatrice said in her letter in this episode that she was borrowing their bodies for the ceremony, and that she would "give them back". |

I actually liked this episode a lot in terms of pacing. It didn't feel rushed at all. Although that might present problems with the rest of the arc.
And does anyone else think that Meta-Battler sometimes possesses the body of his piece Battler? Sometimes it seems as if piece-Battler knows more than he should. His personality even changes somewhat. He gets more serious and dark. Like when he stopped Rosa from slapping Maria. You could tell by the way his face was in shadow that it wasn't the same Battler anymore. Or in the last episode, when he was proving Kanon's innocence. It makes a ding sound right before he starts talking. As if he changed. Also, I notice that Beatrice's cackle isn't taken directly from the VN anymore. Now it's just Ohara raising her voice to do it. She must really love doing her job. |

I don't think he changed. Battler is always like that, it's his character.
I think Battler's reactions always depend on emotion more than logical thinking. When he discussed about the "Wolf and Sheep" with Rosa, he quite got along with her; but when Rosa pointed the gun at the servants, he opposed her. So the problem is not Rosa's logic, but her attitude. It's the way Rosa treated the servants like criminals that hurted Battler so much, to the point that he admitted the witch. Even when he's denying magic, he's also affected a lot by Beatrice's attitude. I think one of main reasons why Battler could hold his stance so far is thanks to Beatrice's non-stop provoking. If she didn't do that, maybe eventually he would have accepted magic. |

Great ep. Beatrice's laugh in this ep is quite annoying. Doesn't sound natural to her normal voice at all. Overall everyone's voice acting is superb, tho'.
It's suspicious that Shanon would know about the mirror that's kept in a locked box inside a drawer. I was waiting for one of the characters to ask where or how she get this information. Not to mention how or where she get all the magical know-hows. |

I thought that was just used for the remaining to "praise her honorable name on high"...

Yeah, that's the Third Twilight. It was important enough for there to be a letter about it in the first arc, so it shouldn't be left out if everything really is part of some ritual. Maybe someone could argue that what Piece-Battler and Maria are doing counts, but that doesn't really feel like praising Beatrice's "honorable name on high" to me.

It just occured to me watching this episode but is there any red that would rule out having something that looked like a master key but didn't actually work? If so then you can still red-say "There are five master keys" and "there are no duplicate keys" since you can't really call something a duplicate key if you can't open doors with it and there could still be an unaccounted for master key out there.
Episode wise I really don't have any complaints whatsoever. The pace is a little brisk but the story doesn't suffer for it. The voices of Rosa, Battler, Beatrice, and Maria particularly shined here. |
