Yeah, to be honest, I'm not always happy with how Setsuna's power is used sometime. In this case, it's fine since she's supposed to lose the fight but Imai Kami's explanations are usually pretty accurate scientifically (well, to a certain degree, we don't know how people can manipulate gravity with their brains but that's another issue) but this one just seems to not work unless you figure his speed and reaction time increased to almost Setsuna's level. Plus, when she was stopped by Teruyama and he was giving the explanation, couldn't she have just used her other hand and hit him? D: She had plenty of time to react! Oh well, still really enjoying these chapters. And thanks to js06 and Ynot for the new chapter (will read it when I get back from dinner)

When I looked at the RAW I assumed that Teruyama did take the hit, tanked it and grabbed her foot all at the same time. It made sense to me because Setsuna's foot would indeed be visible and vulnerable for a brief second just after the moment of impact.

This is quite true. Setsuna's abilities are like a revolver with reloading, once she launchs an attack she's left defendless for a few seconds.
However, I'm pretty sure Teruyama was just fooling around and the Eden Seed enhanced his five senses. You know, this holds certain resemblances with Blade's explanation to Kafka about how he cut his strings only to show in the end that he was just paying him back with his own medicine. It's these type of situations that the reader can interpret in many ways, so if I were you I wouldn't break my head. As for the last page: Mengroze -> Brain Surgery Specialist. With this it's all said. |

On second reading, it seems like its possible that her fist did indeed strike him--it's hard to tell. If she did, then maybe Setsuna expected him to fly back, so she let her guard down and got caught when he didn't flinch like she thought he would. Saying that her power is 'like a revolver' would be inconsistent with her previous portrayals, in which we've seen that she can run across a room, pick up a pendant before someone can smash it, run back to her previous position, and ultimately appear as if she never moved. If she can perform a task and run back to the starting line before anyone can react, then she shouldn't normally leave openings after one attack, unless she did it on accident. So that's what I think happened. She performed one punch and then stopped, thinking that one punch should do the trick, or at least knock him away from her, and when that didn't happen he had an opportunity to grab her before she activated her super speed again. We'll have to see if she decides to step her game up and use her levels beyond Fox Hound or not. |

I don't think Setsuna hit Teruyama since there is a bit of a shadow there between her hand and his head. What I think happened was that when she started her attack, he reached out and grabbed where she'd probably hit since he could see where she was beginning her attack. Think about it this way, if you knew something was coming in a straight line to you at supersonic speeds (Mach 2 in this case), you'd know where to reach out since you'd know the general area where her arm would be.
At least that's what I thought happened.

I'm going to agree with Robotech master. It looks like the most logical explanation to me, especially because I could swear there's blood running down Teruyama's face right after Setsuna unleashed her DDFH and Teruyama did mention he'd catch it when he could see her. It's not impossible he could've caught her by anticipation but to me it feels like he'd have to be very lucky to manage and grab something going as fast as that. As for the bit of shadow between her hand and Teruyama's head, she might have been in the proces of pulling back her fist when Teruyama managed to grab it(still surprised nothing happened so not at her fastest) or her fist could've bounced back a bit from the impact.
Also, chapter 49 Is done. All the chapters which were skipped at first are finally finished Last edited by Ynot; 2012-03-05 at 17:54. |

Woa, it's true, there's blood slipping down Teruyama's fronthead. So he really did it as he said, catch Setsuna's arm the instant he could see it coming.
Which in the end also means Teruyama can't really follow her movements, but he can at least endure her attacks. Well played, Setsuna got so surprised she had no time for a second punch. |

I did. Thanks.

That's great news. I'm going to celebrate by... reading it now. (Well, normally I wouldn't waste my bandwidth quota on something like that, when I could download it for free tomorrow, at the library. But it's a special occasion, so I guess I can afford it just this once.)

Wow! I didn't catch the blood either. Guess that small detail there shows that Setsuna did hit him but it was his plan to take the punch and then hit her back with a much bigger one (kinda like what Eve did).
Guess it would make sense to do things that way, seeing as Setsuna is one of the weakest physically in Needless. Remember she landed a punch on Mio in Chapter 98 and she didn't fly back or anything. She didn't even kill Cruz either with all those punches and attacks (although you could say she wasn't trying as hard against him). Also, thanks for Chapter 49 Ynot and js06! Congratz and thanks to everyone who made it possible. I can still remember when all that was released in English was Chapters 1-10 and Chapter 71 was released (Sept of 2009). It's been a long time coming but we're finally here. Thanks again everyone for all your work!

I remember when it was just chapters 1-4 in English, and the latest raws (there were a few available on mangahelpers, IIRC) were from the St Rose arc. I couldn't understand how those two selections could possibly be from the same manga...

I remember when it first showed up on readers, then i went ahead to track down the chapters, could tell it was epic then.
Eventually did my part to help the scanning, and I think i ended up working on about 20 chapters, from ~64 to about 84 when I eventually burned out of scanning again. |
