^ Shit, I need to back and reread the entire series when I have time. If there really are that many hints -- good grief Sorachi-sensei. As irreverent as you are towards demographic of your manga, you've been setting up this tragedy/finale for ages, haven't you? I bet you're just pretending to be apologetic in your omake's and notes while secretly laughing at us sinisterly in the background...

That's how I've always pictured the Gorilla behind the scenes while drawing.

Chapter 555 is out, and oh hell yeah. Yorozuya in space, baby!

Oh man, when I saw the title "Request for Leave of Absence" with Sorachi's name underneath, I initially took it as Sorachi himself asking for a Leave.

But my jaw ended up dropping when Kagura showed up at the docks with the Kiheitai. That was not expected.

And the manga refs are making a comeback as well.

A poignant chapter. I really liked it.

I get sadder and sadder with every new chapter, because we're obviously getting close to the ending. I guess I shouldn't think about it and just enjoy the time we have left.

This chapter was friggin' fantastic!

Thoughts reading the chapter:

Ugh, that bastard Oboro's still alive. Kind of had a feeling that would be the case, but still. :/ At least we know he's not invincible though.

And Kagura with the Kiheitai.

When she said to bet on her stomach, I couldn't decide if she reminded me of Goku more or of Luffy. Never stop, Kagura. Never stop.

Looks like the next arc will be a Kamui/Takasugi search/rescue/stop arc or something like that.

Edit: Knowing Sorachi, who knows how this arc will end up, but for now, here's a summary of the current major players:

Not surprised Oboro is alive but it seems he was saved by Shouyou and instead of defecting, stuck to follow him even as Utsuro?

This is an awesome cast of characters heading into the next big arc so it's not ending just yet, but this seems like it's going to be lengthy. Finally going to be tackling Kamui and Takasugi. Glad to see best girl Mutsu again.

From what I gathered from the scene, it seems like Oboro's quite a bit older than he looks and has been serving Utsuro since before he became Shouyo. It probably went something like:
previous incarnation of Utsuro saves Oboro,
Oboro becomes servant,
Utsuru defects and becomes Shouyo,
Oboro looks for Shouyo,
Shouyo dies and becomes current Utsuro.

So my guess is that he's been serving at least three incarnations of Utsuro.

Thanks. That would kind of explain why he didn't rescue him from imprisonment during when Shouyou was captured.

Once again, we're moving closer to the end with the appearance of Sakamoto. The only one missing is Korokono.
