I would like to watch Yuutousei, but please not Mad House again. They animated Mahouka as it was s**t. Even No game No Life was visually better and they were supposedly produced in the same year. I heard Mahouka first audio drama. And it was awesome. They practically read volume 8 with interpretation. I enjoined all 4 hours. They should have done six drama DVDs instead of that anime. If we have another anime or OVA they have to make Mad House to work properly, maybe pickup other studio (better please). |

i wonder whether Madhouse does not normally do any season 2 for any anime they adapt is truly a fact. I heard it many times in this board and others so please elaborate for me. I also dislike their animation of Mahouka especially Yokohama.

It hasn't been announced yet. My guess (emphasis on guess) is that they won't. The availability of digital rights are determined by the Japanese publisher. SAO isn't digital; Mahouka probably won't be either.

Ayako, Lina and it was hinted that Erika was, but considering the spoilers I am thinking that maybe Lina gave up and Erika too if she really loved him. Did anyone here play OOO BTW? He said the current arc will have a similar development so I am curious to know how's the story in it, since he is the one who wrote it.

I watched the gameplay of both. If you want the link I can post here as spoiler. LZ seemed, to me, a very very very veeeery light slice of life game with soft imouto fetish and some fights (I'm a het girl, maybe I'll never understand why some people have so fun playing this kind of games). I watched more than a hour of it and it was only "Zero" trying to gain points with the girls and getting sexy cards. (No Mahouka... At least until the part I quit watching). Zero, is the default name of you character and he has a brocom imouto. (Who approved this project???) Out of Order is a tactic game, far far more enjoyable (for me at least). On YouTube I think it only has Miyuki's route. They are in some kind of Tatsuya's experiment without knowing. (We can here P94's voice.) Satou is telling us that Mahouka will be similar to this 2? What does that means? In the end after all that imouto crap and fights it'll be all Tatsuya's plan??? Nah... He is trolling us as always so we buy the game. (I tried to purchase on GooglePlay but it was not available to my country. They are cruel.) |

Ultra Conservatism in the Mahouka Universe
Hey guys, I recently stumbled upon the Mahouka Anime and despite some problems I had with the show I was really intrigued by this series concept of magic and science hybridization, so when I found out it was based on novels I sought them out in order to delve deeper into said system. I was not disappointed, shit is dense.
That being said I have definitely found myself wanting to stop reading at points (still pluggin' away though, currently on v11), the reason I'm struggling is largely the dichotomy between the authors staunch sexual conservatism and the seemingly random tangents throughout the novels that read like voyeuristic soft porn. I do understand that this universe is basically constructed as a Japanese traditionalists utopia and while it does bug me reading about perfectly innocuous things that apparently a "young lady shouldn't do" and the shame, so much shame. I feel it would be easier to at least tolerate the author's judgmental tone if he didn't randomly come across as a salivating lech. It feels hypocritical. Having never really delved into Japanese 'literature' before and not being any kind of expert on the current state of Japanese gender dynamics I'm curious how much of all this just general lost in translation business or whether it is this author in particular. Maybe it's just me... Ultimately, despite the seemingly anachronistic social commentary, I am still enjoying the series, enough to keep reading anyway. |

There are dress codes or list of instructions how one should conduct themselves as "ladies" and "gentlemen" in Western culture. Even western culture is less conservatism, they still don't wear underwear to go around the streets. One can argue that they are still conserving compared to the hentai paradise my fairy friend keeps talking about. Or are you saying that NOT wearing short skirts so boys have no chances to experience "panty flash" like in DxD is the injustice!!?? I know someone complained about this before, on this forum no less. There is nothing wrong with conservatism in itself alone. Unless you are perverts and you are many. But if conservatism is the by-product of gender inequality is what you concern, fear not. Rules are not imposed to just girls/women in this LN. It's not like women need to wear long dress and pants while men can wear his underwear. There are ruled imposed on men too. Like how they should be the one should more responsibilities, even taking responsibilities in place of woman. Remember how that Chinese spy chick got out of her mess scott-free while the other dude is interrogated by police? => there are some social rules on both men and women. There are few differences between genders but equality is guaranteed. ====== TRIVA: In fact, double standard exists everywhere in real life too, and some actually favors women over men: how gentlemen should act towards women, how military is not allowed to draft women into high-risk military units (for example: Green beret, S.E.A.L., S.A.S.) The fact women are allowed to be in 501st Elite Magic Battalion show how much this LN respects gender equality. You should not use Miyuki's teaching as the standard since she is the high-end, educated lady of a rich and high-class clan. She is not your average girl that makes up the majority of the society. Tatsuya is her brother, he has the rights to teach Miyuki how to conduct herself. This has nothing to do with gender equality. Not every man has the rights to tell women what to do: Tatsuya doesn't tell Erika how to behave, Mikihiko doesn't tell Mizuki how to not jiggle her boobs, they are not the girls' brothers.

Although the level of conservatism in the Mahouka universe does rub me the wrong way, I clearly stated that the main reason that it bothered me was the author himself switching between judgmental chiding from his high horse and extremely detailed descriptions of what women are wearing with rambling sentences about thighs and whatnot. As for the rest of your condescending diatribe on conservatism and gender inequality...Yes all societies have standards of behavior and dress codes, but it's a scale not a binary 'no skin allowed' or underpants. Criticizing ultra conservatism does not equate to advocating the opposite end of the spectrum. And yes the brand of conservatism in the Mahouka universe is absolutely a traditional patriarchal system, you just happen to like it, as evidenced by this little gem: |
