@ Zero - IS academy only has 350 - 400 students so all of them will be involved from 1st to 3rd year.

Side note - I was tempted to subvert this in my usual dickish manner and have something attack them. The cast taking out the threat without their weapons while wearing dresses and suits looked hilarious to me for some reason. But, I figured I should let the cast have some actual fun and no troubles, at least for one night.

Tsurugi, along with the Academy pilots, stroll along the sandy beach with a cooling afternoon breeze sweeping across the land.

“Aaah~! Feels so good taking a walk after sitting for hours!” Remarks Lingyin as she stretches her arms.

“Yeah…” Tsurugi agrees as Laura promptly notices some shallow craters on the beach ahead of them.

“Hm…? Is that…”

“Ah yes, that’s where I was having a mock kendo duel with Inami earlier this morning.”

They run towards the said area, immediately noticing the crater marks littered about the area as if it was recently pelted by a meteor shower.

“Tsurugi-chan, was it really just a mock duel…?” Lingyin asks in a horrified tone, observing the impact marks.

“Yeap! It’s been ages since we last had one so today’s session was kinda intense.” Tsurugi innocently answers, oblivious to their fearful expressions.

“’Kinda’ seems to be an understatement for this case…”

“Agreed, it looks as if a war just occurred here…” Laura whispers to Lingyin, looking at a nearby rock with several fracture marks on it.

“A what just occured?” Asks Tsurugi upon barely hearing Laura’s whispering.

“Aaaah nothing! Nothing occurred! We’re ju-just complementing on your slightly intense mock kendo duel.”

“Is that so?”

“Y-yes! Don’t mind it!”

Cecilia remains speechless upon looking at the damage done to the surroundings.

‘They’re this strong without an IS…? Wonder how it would be if she pilots one—’

*WHIIZZZ*

A small stone darts past the side of her head, nearly grazing her hair. However, she manages to remain calm as she recognizes the familiar pinpoint accuracy.

“Ah, Inami!” She greets him upon turning around, seeing him walking towards the group.

“Hey! Having a refreshing walk, are we?” He greets back.

“Something like that, yeah.”

“Ina-kun!” Tsurugi calls out while running over to him.

“Sorry about my quick exit earlier.”

“It’s fine, Ina-kun. What was it about anyways?”

“It’s… sensitive, Tsu-chan. I’ll need to talk to you personally about it later…” He whispers to her.

“Oh… all right then.”

“Something wrong, Inami?” Asks Cecilia as the rest of the group approaches the couple.

“Nothing I can’t handle.” He simply replies with a cheery smile.

Despite his reply, Tsurugi can’t help but worry for him, knowing that he’s somehow troubled.

The group resumes their walk as Inami follows along with another breeze of cool wind blowing from the sea’s direction.

“Aaah~ I love today’s weather!” Exclaims Lingyin as she enjoys the wind.

“Now if only we don’t have to return to the Academy tomorrow…” Sighs Ichika with a discouraging tone.

“Awh, I was hoping I get to hang out with all of you more.” Tsurugi remarks while feeling disappointed.

Inami feels the urge to bring up something but he can’t help but stay silent.

‘You’ll be seeing them a lot more often than you think, Tsu-chan…’

1. Not all of class 1-2 are ultra feminists. Only about two-five of them are and the rest are more neutral. One hates terrorists, so she hates Irish by default.

2. The girls in IS academy were stated to not follow the whole "Complete supremacy" rule. Yes, they believe that the IS would win against any normal human (Irish and Kyuukai are obvious proof that this is not true), but they're still teenage girls who love romance. I can imagine some of them would be cocky like you posted above, not all of the though.

July 13, 2016, 1100 hours. Sainan Technical & Engineering School, Odaiba, Tokyo.

Sainan Technical & Engineering School is one of the very few Co-ed High school survived the change of sociopolitical system of Japan. What’s more, while looks humble, the entrance exam to the school is very strict. However, it’s well known that their graduate has bright future, often recruited by large and small technology-related industries.

Yuuki Rito is one of those aspiring engineers, not the smartest student around, but certainly enough for him to be accepted. To be fair, it was closer to his home than Aoetsu, the only other co-ed school in Tokyo. Meanwhile, all-guys school, while almost free due to them being supported by Government, has pitiful condition.

All of this is because the invention of Super-advanced Powered Exoskeleton known as I.S., [Infinite Stratos]. Like a massive tidal wave that tears the world asunder, their entrance brought a perverted amount of change to the world.

Faster than a Jet Fighter, Tougher than a Main Battle Tank, and packing armament comparable to a whole platoon of infantry. A Single I.S. can easily dispatch a small country’s worth of armed force.

However, for the student of this School, it’s nothing but an expired Tale of the old, bloodless Battlefield.
It’s all the same as back when Nuclear Weapon invented and used, it single handedly ended World War II, coupled with the exhaustion of countries involved. By the time Cold War came, both military technology and doctrine adapted to the presence of nuclear armament in their and enemy’s side.

Because all they did is incorporating I.S. Technology into what they call conventional tech, military and civilian stuff alike. Improving them and shrunk the gap between conventional and exotic technology.

Coupled with Alaska Treaty, which banned the usage of I.S. in warfare. That doesn’t mean I.S. isn’t incorporated in the military ensemble of combined force however, countries are allowed to posses Military-Grade I.S. as a way to repel aggression from an enemy that’s involving I.S. as part of their military force.

There’s no difference with Nuclear Proliferation Treaty, to be honest. Certain Country A is really hypocritical…

That doesn’t mean I.S. can be replaced however, they are their own entity that became part of the world’s weapon ensemble. 467 of them exist in various part of the world.

Including a single, so-called Neutral place appropriately called I.S. Academy.

From their school, the student of Sainan could see an artificial island, connected to Odaiba with a single Monorail. The most prestigious High School in the world, a school where I.S. Pilots are trained and educated, I.S. Academy.

In a single swing of his head, Rito Yuuki managed to evade the chalk thrown by the female teacher, which hit the person behind him instead.

“Why are you spacing out?”

“No, that… I’m sorry Ma’am”

“Pay attention please”

“Yes”

“That’s why I doubt boys like you can succeed in this field, wonder why this school is so persistent of being co-ed…. how old fashioned, while other school had changed their policy-“

“Ma’am, if you wonder, you’re being recorded” one of the guys snorted.

“You dare to blackmail your own teacher?!”

Everyone pointed out straight to the classroom’s door, of which are open wide, and the Chairman of Faculty is standing there, aiming his beloved cell phone’s camera directly to her.

“Rule #1, there’s no discrimination when it comes to education” the lanky, white haired man fixed the placement of his opaque shades “I certain you do realize that, Miss Arakawa”

“Y-yes”

“Please continue the lesson properly”

“Y-yes”

1230 Hours, lunch time.

“That bitch sure knew her place eh?” Slapped his friend Rito, Kenichi Saruyama laughed and dared himself sitting on his table, barely missing a hook from the red-haired boy.

“I don’t really care” Rito responded quite flatly as he unpacked his lunch box and checking the content “She does have her point, but if left too long, it’ll be a long, off-topic filibuster about the difference of social status between men and women”

“But Principal sure useless at his job, to the point that the Chairman had to do the inspection himself”

“… That perverted principal probably reading porn in his office or hitting random girls he find attractive”

“Can’t blame him, it’s not like we can find any bad-looking girls here… though of course, there’s a handful who’s rather outstanding, including Riko-chan”

“I certainly won’t allow you”

Sticking his tongue, Saruyama mocked him “Like I care, pah”

The principal walked out of a classroom, with a bruise on his left eyes. And then he was chewed by the Chairman himself subtly for hitting at young girls.

“You’re right”

Something ticked Rito’s nerves, it was an unusual chill, and for some reason, he felt really dizzy.

“The hell… what is this…”

“Hey, what happened with you?” Concerned, Saruyama supported him with his shoulder, but his expression stiffened when he saw those…

“Rito… your eyes….” He stumbled for a while “Your eyes, something is weird”

“…Network Jammer…”

“Huh?”

“Someone used I.S. Network Jammer just now…” Rito growled, knowing that meant a bad sign “God damned…”
Knowing hat he means and what it caused to his friend, Saruyama just nodded weakly in response, despite this, she knew this going to be suck at any rate.

“Mr. Chairman! Please Evacuate!” one of the school staff wailed, keeping his composure, the Chairman just waved his hand.

“This kind of attack pattern, I knew it”

Instead, he turned his attention to the red haired boy in front of him. “Yuuki Rito-kun?”

“Yes”

Rito wonder if he immediately recognized him by his red hair, but then again he’s not the only one that has red hair so to speak, must be something else…

“Let’s head to the basement immediately”

“Wait… yes sir?”

“As for you, please help everyone evacuate safely” He put his hand on Saruyama’s shoulder, who responded immediately by giving a salute “Sir, yes sir!”

“Stay alive, idiot” Rito smirked at his best and worst friend, who responded by tapped on his shoulder “That’s what I wanted to tell you, dumbass”

The two guys, escorted by none, made their way to the first floor. A member of school staff had opened the secret elevator under the school’s gym.

The humming sounds of the elevator bring a certain tense atmosphere to Rito, things such as secret basement isn’t that farfetched considering what kind of school Sainan is, but surprised nonetheless.

“You probably wonder why such a location can exist considering how humble this school facility is”

“Umm, not really, I was told that Sainan has special facility for technological research and development, but never heard that it was located underground”

“Yes, the Old Building is now used as Extensive I.S. R&D Facility; it does have its own underground facility of course…”

Rito sighed, so this is the reason the main building is so humble it hurts; most of the fund went to the hidden facility. Rich people are damn hard to understand….

“You also probably wonder why you’re called here”

“Don’t tell me I’m going to ride a mecha of some sort”

“Precisely”

Rito facepalmed, for all intent and purposes, this is so ridiculous it’s not funny. So what if his father is a military colonel and her mother is a prestigious engineer?

“This is…”

“Too cliché, I knew… but either way, we have no other choice, and no, your task is not to fight a superior pilot and his ace custom robot while riding a super prototype mecha”

As the coffin like container slides, revealing a huge, humanoid object contained inside it. The room is dark enough that he can’t see it clearly, but he can identify what it is. Its folded wings and booster, oversized legs, and lack upper of torso section is a striking feature…

“Your task is to deliver the package safely, to I.S. Academy, unharmed”

“….I understand”

Basically yes, half of his nerve system is composed of Nanomachine that ALSO used as I.S. wiring system (and Laura's eyes FTW). That's why he can detect Jammer barrage.

@era-era: It sounds cute doesn't it? Don't mean anything with it, I just like the sound of it.(plus "era" sounds like the japanese pronunciation for "error"). As for the cast taking down the drones with just props and stuff, you'd need some serious McGyvering to make that realistic. But seriously. Let them finish at least one school event, the author is destroying their student life enough already.

I realized something bad... the IS have the safety feature of automatically shutting down so the pilot can't continue combat when the shields are out... but the AE doesn't. The AE theoretically has no operational time limit. The problem stands that having 0 or less shield means defeat in IS sports but the AE has no such counter...

@stratos: check out the lyrics translation, I actually thought it fit well too.

@zero: Well normally the monopole engine makes sure he never runs out of shield. But... with the full potential of the engine sealed he can only run for a certain time before he has to let the energy capacitors charge again. When he runs out of shield, the system does not recognize a need to shut down like a normal IS would. This puts him in a situation where he's not defeated, but the fight keeps going with him having no shields anymore and probably nil weaponry.
