Shall we rest another week? (It would greatly help me, since I probably have no time for the commentary this week...)
...also... about 200 posts since yesterday on the movie - darn it! you'll all have discussed it completely by the time I can join in!

... I just finished watching it. >.<
I'm still going to write down my thoughts. They can sit here for another week, I guess. Spoiler for Episode 18:
And can we please agree on having no movie talk of any kind. I mean nothing, at all.

- First, let me say that Grace is really beginning to show her impressively cruel side in this episode. While it was painful to watch for Sheryl, as someone who likes good stories it was very impressive to watch how easily she broke Sheryls shell and got under her skin. Knowing that she was a super-strong cyborg did put the menace behind her words and actions quite well.
- The return of GARby, even for a second, was deeply appreciated. - I do wonder what the symbolism of that piece of pineapple was supposed to be, which Kanaria placed on the tablet in the hospital. Didn't look like pineapple salad to me. - Now with that missive of an older brother to protect Ranka, it really does kinda seem to me that Alto had a problem with it. Him looking at the limited sky of Frontier directly after remembering how he had promised to protect Ranka in the past... well, it kinda seems to me that he is realizing that he put himself in another cage that way. Of course his views of whom to protect took another evolution later on, but at this point, I think he already is feeling the pressure and also the frustration of not being able to protect Ranka effectively, since Brera was one-upping him on that at every turn. - And even while knowing that she'll die, Sheryl still thinks first of Alto. - But, wow, that's some serious play-acting to appear tough to Michael and Klan. - Hey, wow, I don't remember from my other older fansubs that Michael said about Sheryl, re: Altos feelings, that she "really loves him". Interesting to see that THORA came up with that. I guess here is where Michael ( and Klan ) sway over to Sheryls side. - And, wow, one can feel Sheryls pain when she finally breaks down. She now knows she is about to die, that her fame was constructed all along by others and she has been cast down by another. Given her obvious feverish condition, no wonder she lost it. - And Alto is rightfully upset about the injustice of it all. <shakes fist at Yasaburo> - Wow, crisis managment is not President Glass' strong suit. - Okay, Banana just worked off some debt with Alto by saving his bacon. - Kanaria really has some weird taste in her noseart. - Now, this is really interesting. Ranka wants to put her life on the line for the fleet. WHY DOES SHE CHANGE HER MIND ONE EPISODE LATER? - And Alto gets a very graphic demonstration why he can not protect Ranka anymore, gets annoyed by it and then almost killed this way. - It wouldn't be Macross without the Macross cannon! - Hey, y'know what exonerates Alto for missing and then not reporting Rankas glowing belly? How about everybody of the military missing it, too. And everybody else who was watching the broadcast. And Kanaria. She took a taxi.

Funny, are these her exact words? Leon said it. However. Why she changes her mind is well known: LOVE. When Love is in the game forget everything. Or with words of Franz Josef Strauss: "Was interessiert mich mein Geschwätz von gestern?"

And since Ranka nods when President Glass asks her if she really wants to do this, I think it is pretty unlikely that Leon was lying.

Yes, and I said, when love is in the game then forget everything about what was in the past. Love is the well known random factor why a person starts to behave or say something different. Ranka is no exception from this random factor.
