Tomoko will be voiced by Izumi Kitta, who also happens to sing the ED song in character.

If you're looking for someone who can do a crazy voice, Izumi Kitta is definitely capable of that. Cordelia's insanity was one of the most prominent (and my favorite) aspects of her character. She's also Rainbow Dash. (This has nothing to do with anything, I just wanted to mention it.)

One thing that wasn't mentioned. The OP is by Konomi Suzuki in collaboration with Kiba of Akiba. I've never heard of them, but from their sample posted on their site, I think it'll work.

I've never read the manga, and like Jinrui, from what I've heard it might ultimately be a little cynical for me (I'm having the same reaction to Hachiman over in OreGairu), but the Izumi Kitta factor and that it is a comedy is enough for me to have it on my watchlist anyway. The summer season has so much variety that I can easily have something like this and Love Lab coexist and let all live in freedom.
From the voice Kitta's using in the promo, it's actually closer to Dash than Cordelia. Her crazy Cordelia voice is more sing songy. And high pitched. Also, based on that PV, the animation studio is Silver Link, the director is Shin Oonuma, and the other cast members are Yuuichi Nakamura (Tomoki) and the ever ubiquitous Kana Hanazawa (Yuu). |

Well, I'll still give it a try, but my expectations got deflated instantly. On top of the fact that I didn't think the manga was all that, Shin Oonuma directing two shows at once? Bleh. (although I heard rumors that this is a short, so...)

Oh my God, how did Izumi Kitta not get cast as Nakamura in Flowers of Evil? That voice is so awesomely psychotic. I can't wait to hear her railing on HanaKana.
I keep seeing people say that but I can't figure out why since all the evidence points the other way. A) This isn't based upon some small time 4-koma. The first three volumes have sold a million copies so far, which makes it one of Square Enix's biggest hits. Why wouldn't they spring for a full-length series in the hope of pushing it up to the level of Soul Eater and Inu x Boku SS? B) Part of the promotion for the anime is a spin-off in Gangan Joker, which really doesn't seem like it'd be worth it for a five minute series. C) The manga recently reached a natural pausing point which would give the anime exactly enough material to do 13 episodes of three chapters each in the Squid Girl format. D) They've announced both an OP and ED while most short-form series only have one or the other. |

i am quite happy by the animation from the PV, good thing they maintained her expressions as much as possible, the voice at the end of the PV sounds little off, but i hope it blends in in the episodes

It also does not help that he's working on this and Prism Illya in the same season. I had problems when Shinbo did that back in Shaft's early days, and Oonuma is no Shinbo.

The preview does give off a bizarrely subdued atmosphere. Perhaps this is just a lingering memory of Oonuma's work on Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, but I worry his direction is going to end up being too heavy-handed for the material.
