It seems all Abe seems to be doing is freelance work. Personally, I dig Abe's character designs and I wish there were more opportunities for Abe to have the involvement in anime. I even love it when he writes the script because his work always have that down-to-earth vibe. It doesn't try to be anything but be personal, introspective and quirky. I'm hoping this series have that atmosphere and have 2 cour if it's possible. You can rarely see Abe's style of drawing in anime now.

And to think that I just found out about this show with the news of it's directors death. It's a real shame, it looked absolutely bloody fantastic in a way that I haven't seen since Lain. Damn it. If there is any kind of god-like entity he/she must be a real bastard to take someone like Director Ryutaro Nakamura away from us so soon.

Best anime news I've heard in like 8 years. Being completely serious too. True cyberpunk is returning at last.
Easy. Hamasaki Horishi would be an ideal candidate. Director of Texhnolyze, another Yoshitoshi Abe /chiaki konaka anime, that is also a cyberpunk and in my opinion even better than Serial Experiments Lain.
