Even with the occasionally crap art (in the Jump releases anyway) I think Hunter x Hunter is still a lot better than the average manga. Oh, and about the ''deadly video games'': the same thing was in Yu Yu Hakusho and Level E (both by the same author) so you could have expected that if you were familiar with the author's work. Personally I think the Greed Island arc worked out very well in the end, despite the cliche game/card setup. |

Hmm... I don't think there's currently any other manga serialized out there that have worse drawing quality than HxH... it's not the "art quality", but rather the drawing itself... but then he's famous for releasing draft drawing in serials XD

Apparently he woke up some time last month and was 'better'. I'm going to throw out a hypothesis and say that he's nothing but a lazy bum. Or more specifically, that he worked hard in his youth and is now nothing but a lazy bum, using his fame and built-in fan base that refuses to dislike his pitiful and cliche work in order to get money while barey actually doing anything (you yourself said that he's reused the same killer video game theory in 3 of his mangas... and somehow you seem to think it's a good thing). Hell, the MegaTokyo guy works harder than Togashi, and the MegaTokyo guy complains more than he works.

I do know that I find Hunter x Hunter one of best shounen fighting mangas. I'm really getting tired of everyone bashing the crap art. Yes, the art in the Jump releases is often crap, just wait for the volume releases, because the art in those looks fine. |

I think Yoshihiro Togashi is a brilliant genius... but a rather irresponsible genius at that... look at how he ended Yu Yu Hakusho, look at how he ended Level E... oh well...
I think someone even speculated that Tsugumi Ooba is really Yoshihiro Togashi XD |

The fact that every other mangaka in the entire world somehow manages to release their weeklies in the same quality as their tankouban chapters simply makes his half-assed weekly art all the more intolerable. Geez, no matter how popular he is, if I was in charge of a manga publication and one of the authors that I supported, paid, and brought into the lime light suddenly decided that my publication didn't deserve anything but his rough drafts he'd be fired and I'd spit on him as he collected his things. It's a profession for crying out loud. No matter the genius or how much you like the story, he's simply not doing his job and what he does do isn't even a completed product. Had I not grown up on his other works I would have absolutely no respect for him at all, and the longer he continues doing what he's doing, the more the past respect he's built in me will crumble.
Seriously, everyone acts like mangakas are gods that are infalable and should never be questioned, while they're actually nothing but people employed to entertain me, the consumer. If you people were paying to read something published in a weekly magazine yet only actually appearing every 3 weeks and having that appearance be only 14 pages as opposed to the 20 pages everyone else releases every single week, don't you think you'd be just a little exasperated? Think of it like a sitcom that you REALLY love that's advertised as coming on every friday night. You set aside time every friday for that sitcom because you want to see it as soon as possible, but when you get to the TV there's a little message on the screen that says "Your favorite sitcome will be taking this week off because the actors are lazy, please tune in next week". Or even better, when the sitcom actually does come on, it's the actors reading from scripts during a rehearsal with a little note on the screen that says "We're sorry, but you can't see the good version unless you buy the DVD scheduled to be in stores in 5 months". Idunno about you, but it'd piss me off. I'd rather they not show it to me at all and wait for the actors to stop being assholes. |

I honestly donīt have that much of a problem with the slow pace. I just get other anime/manga to fill the void. Anyway, what I'm saying is that while most other mangakas may be faster, their manga are often not as good...take Naruto for example, itīs released one chapter per week, but itīs also twice as cliche and predictable as HxH. Iīm not saying Togashi is a god or that he or his manga donīt have any faults. Iīm just saying the even with the slow pace and crap art (in Jump) itīs still a way above average manga. |

No... I honestly disliked HxH ever since they started the weird auctions and stopped reading it at the beginning of the stupid video game. I haven't touched it in over 2 years and wouldn't even know about this shitty art if people hadn't pointed it out to me (I don't read Jump, either). I'm not angry because I want to see it, I'm angry because no one else seems to understand what I'm saying. It's not about how much you like something or how much you dislike someone, it's the principle of it. He's simply not doing anything that warrants people willingly being told "I'll do it later and you can pay more for it, this is good enough for you for now" without fighting back. You people need to at least -think- as if you're not stealing this stuff to begin with or your opinions will be completely off from those of us who are actual consumers. It's not like complaining will get you (the leechers) anywhere, but at least ACKNOWLEGDE what I'm saying.
Plus his slow pace and shitty art is what makes it a below average manga... it's just like how pacing is what makes Naruto a slightly below average anime. Pacing is incredibly important (and I would say this even if the art wasn't pure crap... that's like a second bullet to the head just in case he didn't kill himself with the first). And a plot that's unpredictable because it seems like something he made up on the fly doesn't out weigh those factors... if anything else, I find the plot twists people have told me about to be utterly ridiculous, and in many ways more ridiculous than plots in gag mangas thought up for that specific purpose. (... giant ants...?) |
