If you are talking about "Nihei", then she already debuted in Chapter 59, though didn't get much focus.
Would have understood the comparison if you mentioned Series like "Negima!", but how was DBZ about "fun and games" at the start?

Yeah. Even if you include the part where Goku's a kid, that also already had martial arts tournaments and training. The Dragonball manga series was always a battle Shonen.
And yeah, I also had that thought about Nihei. I was confused because I thought I remembered her having been introduced earlier on.

The comment is because unlike real life, when you introduce certain elements into a story, chances are they will be used later, mmmhhh, a cloth that gives you herculean strength, what uses could it have ... |

Also, while Dragonball did have a sillyness and comic aspect, it was still a Series focused on Combat & Martial Arts from the start.

I read the manga as well, and as far as the manga goes it's the same series. Take a look at the manga for yourself when you have the time, if you don't believe me.
And yeah, I think the fabrics mentioned here may be used again later. Makoto and the others are already getting clothes made out of one of those fabrics.

Maybe I should have said Yuyu Hakusho or Ghost Sweeper Mikami; both series starting point was an exploration of the supernatural but the manga shifted gears at some point and became a battle shounen. Sadly with GSM little of that was shown on the TV series.

Oh my. So much to unpack with this chapter. This was great.
1) Wow. Akane is really powerful. Even if she wasn't the one to stop time, it seems like summoning requires a lot of skill and power. 2) What a sparkly end. 3) The "I'm better when I'm drunk" line was great 4) I'm very curious about the talking familiar. Chito-san seemed really impressed. 5) The mom suspecting Akane is also great 6) The hugs before Makoto got on the train were.... very awkwardly drawn 7) Ah, so that explains why Yayoi could move... I was figuring that the dad would be able to move like the whole thing early on in the manga about Kei being able to see something (I think) because he'd been exposed to witches so much Really a great chapter all around. Such a great manga.

Yeah, Akane is great. She's also famous as a really amazing witch for that reason, no?
And yeah, the fact that that familiar can talk is surprising. I wonder if Akane and Makoto's familiars can learn to talk too?

Well, yeah, we've heard many times throughout the manga that Akane is powerful. And there's the story about the mountain/cliff/whatever. This just felt like it was on a totally different level to me, especially if it was a worldwide impact.
