I forgot to do this, but I have to comment on how much of a threat Yusa is to the Neighbor's Club. I mean, she might not be doing it on purpose, but she just called out much of Kodaka's problems without knowing much about his situation! Now, imagine that girl as part of the Neighbor's Club and it will be chaos the moment she speaks her mind about them.

Who wants to bet that Rika has a homing device on Yozora's phone? Any takers?
I doubt Yozora can get very far if Rika wanted to find her. However, I have a feeling Rika will let Yozora go on her journey. Now where to? Considering that Yozora cannot handle crowds, she is either 1) going to train in crowded places, or 2) go to a secluded mountain somewhere and do waterfall training. The Sena and Kodaka scene in the end was inconclusive, but felt a bit of emotion there. If the anime is really reflecting what the author intends, it seems like Kodaka at that scene actually was showing a little affection towards Sena. However, that could all be a red herring, and things could turn around during the next arc. How will Yozora change when she returns? Will the dynamics of the club change now? I'm sure that progress and change (which I think is the theme of the season) will occur in the club. If we look at the season, everyone besides Yozora has improved and progress. -Yuki has accepted the fact that she is a girl -Rika has worked hard and gained real friends, being closest with Kodaka -Sena has come to terms with her feelings and confessed to Kodaka -Maria has accepted Kobato and vice versa. They are very close and enjoy each other's company. That leaves Yozora, who is still stuck in the past, who has plotted and schemed against everyone, who still hates crowds, and who still "judges a book by its cover" against the School Council President. I guess the future arcs will show Yozora growing, so hopefully this trip of hers will do her good.

from what I watch...... it's RIKA end!!!! yay!
where are you going, Yozora? you're leaving Kodaka to Sena and Rika? maybe in college, Yozora will show up again to reclaim Kodaka back by making another Rinjin-bu... the student council prez really need more screentime... she's like only show up in two episodes in this season better than season 1.... great season, Haganai! |

Indeed is not over yet, i don't know how much light novel volumes they cover till now but i'm sure there will be more (like Oreimo).
Hope they continue to so more seasons till they cover all the novel to the end. Btw, overall this second season was very good, 8/10. |

Rather weak ending, but echoing others in this thread it really can't be helped since this is where the source material stops too.
Overall strong season, but I was hoping for more development for Yozora and I hope this "journey" brings it. We've seen that the rest of them, barring their unusual neruoses, are either relatively likeable people once you get to know them, or like Sena simply doesn't have the experiences to empathize with others (silver spoon, good at everything). Yozora is simply a terrible person. She judges by look, has no sympathy or empathy, and *should know better*. |

I think the amount of effort it put into expanding Kodaka's character in the first half was extremely well done. The fight with Rika, however, was a bit more mixed. Rika expressing her jealousy at Kodaka "fraternising" with the enemy produced some pretty funny lines from both characters but then it started getting a bit too meta and its talk about Kodaka not really being a harem lead fell a bit flat since that's what the story's been most of the time (even now it feels like they just finished "Rika's arc"). Not to mention going meta on the shonen tropes whilst trying to play them straight at the same time feels a bit disingenuous. It could've definitely done without the ridiculous flying marbles. But at least the show did actually make it clear that Kodaka does have a point and that him entering a relationship with any of the girls could really complicate things.

In the end, I'm just glad it did confirm that it was more of Kodaka fearing what he's be losing more so than fearing what he would gain, and that he did consider these people close to him even though having his reasons for not admitting it.

That ending left me confused as fuck. If Yozora taking off on her "Journey" (Aka a massive sulk) is supposed to incur sympathy towards her then it has surely failed. She got what she had coming to her, at the end of the day.

But basically, she probably just feels like she has no use here. Compared to the rest of the group, Yozora and to a slightly smaller extent Sena are in this group more so the be around Kodaka than to actually get friends. So not only her falling behind in the romance department was enough, now she thinks she's losing him as a friend seeing how close him and Rika are getting. Yea they are all friends, but I'm sure she realizes Rika is the favoring girl to get that "BEST FRIEND" spot at the moment, and its probably eating her alive. Though I don't agree with the "had it coming to her" remark, cause when it comes to Kodaka, she hasn't been bad at all, only to Sena. But then again, she doesn't necessarily care about being close to her anyway.

I mean, why go all through the trouble of setting up Yozora as the forgotten childhood friend from 10 years ago, who was also Kodaka's best buddy, only to remove it all by Sena and Rika in the next season? What is the point? Maybe Yozora will continue to sulk and not learn anything, with Kodaka moving on from her. Maybe she'll only learn things in the epilogue X years after the fact. Or what I think is most likely? This is the author setting up the stage for Yozora's comeback. I have a big feeling that the major focus of the next volumes/next anime series would be with how Yozora copes with this scenario.

Whoohoo, I was waiting for President-chan, I didn't think she'd once again be Hikasa Yoko I bet they did that on purpose
As for Kodaka.... still can't wrap my head around that running away thing. Let me see if I can throw that into an example: Quote:
Yusa-chan! Quote:
And here's the most conclusive piece of evidence to support my beliefs. Do you recall the whole reason why Sena got a cell phone? I'd list the whole thing here but you probably know where I'm getting at, they had agreed to use their cell phones to communicate club activities and such in a way to ensure other members are not left hanging from a no-show. Guess what, Kodaka just up and left the club. He left them high and dry, not so much as a SMS I bet. He didn't even drop by during his absence, so what use is there for those girls to hang around a club when a member just suddenly went AWOL? They had already planned against this type of thing from happening, but not from an intentional absence. Any plans Yozora might have had for the club, shot down. Rika we all know actually has other things she does, which I'm sure she spent her time making those... funnel balls... I just wanted to say here, I feel really awkward mentiong a girl and "balls" in the same sentence Sena, I'm not sure if I'm remembering this right, but I think she left her console in the club room for a reason. And hey, she might actually be feeling responsible for saying what she said, and causing the club to stagnate for the time it did. Maria was there because she had been there before this whole club happened, and Yukimura, as his underling, might have very well been waiting for him to show up, because I don't recall her ever interacting with Kodaka outside of club activities, and I don't think she's even been to his house. Which in the end, she ended up chasing those rumors of his alleged debauchery in order to find him And of course, Rika finally finished her invention and threatened him with her phone Quote:

When the student council pres. Hinata asks Kodaka to be in the student council I was telling myself that "Go accept it!" but then there are some problems at that time. I hope we can watch future interactions between student council girls and neighbor's club girls.
After watching this I think I'll start reading the LN plus side stories to gain another story perspective while waiting for season, an OVA or so.. 9/10!

One other Thing
I wonder if Yozora overheard Kodaka say that he loved the student council president, at least not romantically but loved her personality. Remember the stuco prez is the person that Yozora hates the most, even to the point of getting physically ill when seeing her. I wonder if that hurt more than anything else that was said on the rooftop.

In true Rika fashion her "fight scene" with Kodaka was confusing as all hell and I love it
I seriously had a hard time deciding what genre of anime I was watching when all the action was happening. Now for Yozora's decision to leave, I wouldn't really say she "had it coming", she's been relatively nice to everyone else in the club barring her "hate-love(?)" relationship with Sena. The way I see it is she's running away just like Kodaka did but for an entirely different reason: she thinks she has no more role to play in the club. The rest of this is purely my own speculation now, I think Yozora has the same problem that Kodaka had in the sense that her love for the Neighbor's Club conflicts with her own personal fears/wants so now she's trying to sort herself out. I base my speculations on the fact that Yozora has actually kept a picture of the club with her and that she was adamant about not watching the movie they made till everyone was present. P.S. What has Rika done to Yukimura XDD |
