That is a strange article, the guns were only mentioned once in a small section (And not really even in a negative light) while the rest of the article was pretty much okay.
Honestly would it be any different if they were using a bow and arrows instead? Given that the monsters are seen wielding other forms of weapons, why are guns taboo? If anything, you're probably finding ammo for your own weapons throughout the village, wouldn't it be stranger to have no enemies with guns? There's a difference between villagers with guns and commando zombies. EDIT: Btw, the original Silent Hill games had enemies with guns as well. If the problem comes from seeing them as 'zombies', then just think of them as demonic, monstrous village people. Last edited by Chaos2Frozen; 2014-04-21 at 00:47. |

It just somewhat shifts the genre. The game is being touted as survival horror but it's this sort of thing which turns the focus more towards action horror. Heck, it's not much of a jump from monsters with weapons to monsters with guns and that's a whole different ball park.

Again, doesn't make sense- Action Horror can still have scary/creepy enemies that wield weapons. The original Bioshock, while never really called Action Horror, have disfigured and psychotic humanoid foes with weapons that could still unnerved you with the right set up. On the opposite spectrum, Condemned and Siren were survival horror games that had normal human enemies with weapons and were well received.
Hell, even Silent Hill had Nurses and Robbie Rabbits with weapons. Fatal Frame had villagers with pitchforks. |

Zombies with guns...seems like RE4 and RE5 are back and other old school beat 'em up, they remind me of zombies with guns. With that said I think this will be a hybrid of Silent Hill meets Resident Evil 4. Though I maybe wrong, but I want this game to be a legit survival horror

Spoiler for Saving Space:
Okay. Watching the two game analysis videos while eating probably wasn't the best idea. Looks like I won't be eating when this game comes out. Nearly lost my lunch during the whole dissecting the dead body thing. Anyway... Ahem: So this game is based more on the psychological which with the right setting and frame of mind can complement the horror concept really good if executed right. I'm really liking the concept being the guy dressed in white and it seems he can one shot you if you choose to fight him. But I wonder if you do choose to run he'll use the Wesker teleports to chase you down, or he'll be kind and chase you slowly like a predator hunting down its prey. @4:18 of the 6 Reasons to be Terrified of the Evil Within video, anyone else thinking Force Push, or was it just me? Okay after reading the mechanics and looking at the current game build expectations and other tidbits...I got to say that some of the gameplay mechanics are great, but some I feel it's potentially unnecessary. For example: Spoiler for My Likes:
Spoiler for Single Turn Off:
Still skeptical about the monsters with guns or weapons, but I think I can deal. Quote:

That's what I hate these days, they just can't get rid of the ammo's. Man way back in RE1 and RE2, we needed to endure the horror first before we unlock the infinite rocket launcher for a run and shoot them all game. Now they just give new players that... :/

You know, I've seen tons of RE2 walkthroughs and guess what? Every single one of them has accumulated 50-100 handgun ammo within the first hour of the game and blasted their way through to the rest of the game with machine pistols and explosive shotgun.
This illusion of desert dry ammo on the original games and weak weapons has to die already. |

I can't wait to be scared ****less by Evil Within, always nice to scare yourself every once in awhile, makes you feel alive.
(I usually dislike being scared too heh) Hopefully the game is even better than Resident Evil.
