If Brynhildr was a comedy trying to look serious and Gaworare was a serious show trying to look like a comedy, what does that make Akame ga Kill? I'm still trying to work that out.
White Fox is justifiably known for doing very faithful adaptations, so it never even occurred to me that the strange mix of comedy and depravity was original - I just figured this was a story with a very weird sensibility.

Well, that was a fucking roller coaster. A little too much mode-whiplash at the end though, what's with returning to the zaniness.
I usually don't really notice this sort of thing while watching, but the sound design in the episode was amazing. |

Dat OST
Iwasaki is in much better form this time around. OP is okay on the other hand, visuals in particular is what mainly carries it. ED is bit stronger then two so far. Anyway as another manga reader watching this, I'm pretty pleased with out how this turned out. With exception of fairly abrupt transitions of the second half of the first episode, I don't have much in the way of complaints. At very least whatever issues present in the content (like the often mentioned mood whiplash) can be attributed to source rather than something the adaptation introduced. Speaking of that, it even itself out in time once the plot advances further and things settle down. Lastly, I found the animation to be solid myself. It's nowhere as detailed or lavished compared to something like Aldnoah Zero or Tokyo Ghoul, but it's totally serviceable. The backgrounds are also among the best I've watched of any show this season, so there's that. |

Chapter 1 was about the length of two chapters, so it's not surprising. It's either glacial snail pacing like Hataraku Maou or the speed they seem to be going with for the next episode. Which is cool since we'll get into the better parts of the story sooner.

Well this was a surprise.
I wasn't planning on watching this and one time had plans to read the manga but after watching the 1st episode, i'll watched the anime till finish before reading the manga. It will be interesting to see how a young, naive warrior lives in a world where the corrupt and depraved rules and where the "good guys" are merciless assassins.

Question: Did Tatsumi intentionally allow himself to get stabbed because he knew that he would lose in a fight with Akame so that she would lower her guard and, at that moment, take advantage somehow, or did he simply get lucky by having that statue where his heart is, and after he lost, thought of taking advantage at that point?

It's more like he couldn't dodge or parry the blow so he turned his body so that her blow would hit the idol. This is only speculation, but since he had planned on ambushing her if she dropped her guard I don't think it was just random.
Also...if you want to classify Akame Ga Kiru, it's a Super Sentai from Hell. Last edited by Verrueckter; 2014-07-08 at 23:23. |
