I really hated this episode.
Not really the episode itself(I gave it a 10) but for the fact that it caused me to no longer be able to decide on who I liked more between Ai and Noe. After watching it though, I feel its pretty safe to assume it will be a Hiromi ending . . . unless something unexpected happens. Nobuse: Even though I hate the pairing of him and Ai, Nobuse has now officially become one of my favourite characters in this show. He handled his situation with Ai in the best possible way (the only better way that he could of handled it were if he were to have broken up with Ai just as she was about to confess her feelings about Shin). I hope he gets a happy end(but not with Ai). Maybe with Hiromi's basketball friend. . .? Noe: Noe MADE this episode. Her facial reactions, voice and attitude were all just win. Too bad that its almost a guarantee that she and Shin will break up(I'm making a prediction of episode 9). Now,it does sound like a bad thing at first but its something that has to happen, just based on how the pretenses of their relationship is. Noe will break up with Shin after think that he is only going out with her because of her brother. Personally, I don't think that is really the case but once she finds out that that that may have been the case, all logic will be gone. What happens after that is anyone's guess. I'm predicting it right now, the very last scene of this series will be Noe's tear dropping. Either because Shin really wants to be with her or because he chose someone else. Side Note: If Shin never "broke" up the fight between her and Hiromi, she would have ended up really bad for her. Either she would have lost to Hiromi or she would have been beaten up by the basketball team after beating Hiromi. Jun: I still think that he doesn't have a romantic interest in Noe. If there were a true "villain" in this series, it would be Jun. It especially is made clear in this episode. Just listen to the BGM in his scene with Ai and Shin. He's a great big brother to Noe but is a f***** up person. If it wasn't for the deal between him and Shin, I think that it would be much harder to predict who would win this series. He basically screwed over his sister while trying to help her. Shin: . . . I really don't know what to say about him in this episode. He's dense but at the same time, if he wasn't then this series wouldn't be as interesting. His confession to Noe is definitely complicated but I think what he said to himself before was a good sign for their relationship. And the fact that he wrote it out helps too. Ai: I'm honestly getting really bad vibes from her now, especially after that last scene (which tied with Noe's blush for the best moment in this episode). She is starting to remind me too much of my favourite character from Ichigo 100%, Satsuki(not personality wise) and I really don't want her to go out the same way that she did. Ai has clearly become the (likeable) female version of Shin. She has the exact same problem as Shin. Exact. Just replace Hiromi with Shin, Jun with Hiromi, and Noe with Noguse. The situation with her is extremely weird for me, in that I think that the only way that she will truly have a chance to win is if Noguse tries to fix her up with Shin when I think the exact opposite in regards to Noe and Jun. Side Note: For someone with such little screen time, I really wonder why she gets the best lines. The fact that she "mostly likely" took Shin's first kiss(and most likely her own), is, hopefully a good sign for her. Hiromi: Not much to say about her this episode. I'd say that the rankings for the girls as of this episode are: 60% Hiromi, 25% Noe, 15% Ai. I will be pissed off with a Hiromi ending but would accept it as I like her character. I'll be overjoyed if Noe wins. I will lose a LOT of sleep if Ai wins, simply based on the fact that this would make up for every series where I have ever rooted for the underdog but lost(which was almost every series I have ever watched). |

I think this episode is the one that gave Noe the most chance. This is the episode where someone else, besides Hiromi, entered Shin's heart. For the first time he's going after another girl. Now that he doesn't just have eyes for Hiromi, he'll see the other options (Noe). With this new option he can finally stop chasing the horizon and see that it's alright to deviate from that pursuit. So, I think this episode puts Noe in the lead with 50%, Hiromi at 40% chance, and Ai at 10%.
But, I have this suspicion (like everyone else), that he will break up with Noe, one way or the other, and that's how she'll find her "true tears." |

This must be a good show, and a good episode, since we are getting so many good posts.
The set-up looks as if Shin will give Noe back her tears by leaving her for Hiromi. I wish he would give her tears of joy, instead. But if, as seems possible from the way Shin's mother was about to say something to Hiromi, they really aren't siblings, and Hiromi eventually tells Shin she likes him, the game will be over -- unless he has learned to love Noe or Ai in the meantime. I think Noe's directness and life are very good for Shin, and he will find out in the next episode how great it is to have someone love you that much, and to be able to bring them happiness simply by existing. So I do think it is possible that, after ups and downs, he will end with Noe. But I think all possibilities are still open, even including Ai, whom Shin has never been romantically inclined toward, but who is most like him, it seems to me: part of a local commercial family, and easily put-upon. They can talk more easily than he can talk with either of the others. I loathed the Canvas2 ending, but at this point, we're nowhere near that with Ai. We have several episodes to go to develop his feelings for her. Sorry about Nobuse. I admire what he does in this ep. And I don't blame him at all for not wanting to hear Ai out. But I just don't like him. His clownish eager-beaver blindness simply offended me. But I do feel sorry for him now. When he and Ai are together, I feel sorry for both of them. It will take a lot for me to believe in Ai getting back together with him. But maybe this loss will make his character more serious. The translation of the scene of Shin in his room seemed a little off to me. I thought he said directly that his liking Noe had nothing to do with any deal. And instead of saying things had gotten confused, I thought he said that he must love Noe, or else he wouldn't have done all these things (with her). He may be kidding himself that he loves Noe, but he consciously believes it, anyway. The "confession" scene between Noe and Shin was outstanding. Her character design and animation were great. The way she pointed to the ground and got him to write out that he loved her was too much, lol. And as mentioned before, the rising blush -- its timing and color -- were the stuff of legend. And I noticed someone referring to "the studio" previously, so I wanted to again just mention the main people behind the show: director/writer Nishimura Junji (Simoun, Windy Tales, Ranma1/2), writer Okada Mari (Rozen Maiden eps., Simoun eps., Sketchbook, Kodomo no Jikan, etc.), and animation director Sekiguchi Kanami (GITS Solid State, episodes of FMA, key animation on The Girl Who Leapt Through Time). The writer and animation director are women.

I have to say ayako that was an excellent post and I'll like to discuss a few points later on when I have more time.

I admit I haven't watched that many shows in this genre but from everything I've seen in the ;last 4 months (KGNE, EF, Kimikiss) the girl who ends up winning (or in the case for Kimikiss should end up winning) is in a really bad position midway through. |

The expression on Shin's face after Aiko kissed him was one of shock, fear, and disgust. That's pretty much it for Aiko, with that face of his. I really feel sorry for her, with her, "please look at me, too" plea.
I've noticed (finally) in the intro that it goes from Fall, Winter, and then Spring. We are now in winter, and everything seems a little cold and gloomy. Hence, when spring arrives (end of the series), I am sure it will be happy. Hiromi running out of the house on her own makes me think that Shin will end up with nobody (although, I would feel cheated if that happened). Oh yeah, what is the significance of the dance that Shin is doing? Will it eventually play into the drama somehow, like a meaning for that dance?

if shin and hiromi are really related then i d like to see an aiko ending. noe as cute as she might be doesnt cut in for me. his relation with noe is the result of third party intervention whereas his potential relation with aiko would come from his own decision not as a suggestion from someone else. he might realise that just like noe did with him he never saw aiko in a romantic light and look at her differently. ever since jun asked him to go out with his sister he started looking at noe as a potential romantic partner but it didnt affect his behavior with her unlike how it affects his behavior with hiromi or how it affected noe's behavior with him. i would also like to see jun's action not as "evil" as we see them, sure there is the helmet incident but maybe after their grandma's death they became too close to each other and he was the first to turn the page. he wants his sister to turn the page too and tries to make her realise there are other men around. he might have also seen the crush that shin has on hiromi and tries to remove the obstacle for his sisters sake. (i m going way too far and giving him too much "credit") my feelings about the futur of the serie : Spoiler:

He will end with Aiko by default if Aiko doesn't get together with Shin. I don't see Aiko and nobuse being more than highschool sweethearts If Aiko goes to college. If she doesn't go to college, they will get married. If she goes to college, as soon as Aiko meet someone like Shin , nobuse is a goner. |

More so is it is a shame we didn't get a flash backs from Ai of why she likes Shin, although I think there might be some appearing in the next episode. Shin to me hasn't been shown as that dense so far, but this episode turned that around totally. Nobu is meant to be his best friend and arguably he can miss hints from girls (who understands the other sex ), but Nobu is a bloke. I do think that he is distracted by his issues with his mum and his maybe sister. I wonder does he think ZOMG my dad is a whore . This distraction makes me really worried about Noe, I want him to love the Moester for herself and not because his heart is being booted around like a football. I guess to me Ai just adds to an already full plate of confusion. I have nothing against Hiromi, but I do think that Hiromi and Shin is going to be a self destructive relationship. With the s**t going on with his mum and her, unless they pull a "it was all a mistake lets hug and make up", his mum is going to be riding her for the rest of her life.

Sign of an engrossing anime: it goes by quick. Seriously, when it finished, it totally caught me off guard, since it only felt like five minutes.
So the plot is really taking off now, and an incredible lot happened, but I kinda feel as if this pick up in pace has come at a sacrifice to the characters. Other than one scene with Noe, (and arguably the scene with Nobuse, which I'm still not really sure what I think about) there wasn't anything in this ep that I'd call character development. I think this show may need to just slow down a notch, and actually show how the events around the characters are impacting them. Particularly since some of the characters are really ambigious, like Hiromi and Shinichiro. Shinichiro in particular is really weird. I never seem to find myself convinced by anything he says or does, even his internal monologues. For example, even during the stone scene, I was half expecting him to say to himself "I don't really like Noe in the same way she does, I'm just going along with this." I'm finding him really difficult to understand. Same goes for Hiromi, just not to the same extent. I think this show needs to be a bit more careful with how it handles character development. It's in danger of falling into something plot-driven rather than character-driven and, in this genre, that's usually the first step towards degenerating into a soap opera.

This episode obviously pales in comparison to the others drama-wise (except maybe until the very end), but there's no mistaking that I enjoyed this one more than many of the previous episodes. 9/10
Unless I'm mistaken, but that was the first time Shin confessed his feelings (to himself), and now I'm quite afraid of the Shin x Noe relationship. I've always favored Noe, but this is not how I wanted it to happen; I'm afraid Noe will be hurt later on. From my experiences with past drama/romance series, if Shin forgets about Hiromi and ends up with Noe in the end, then...well that just doesn't make sense and goes against every other series that are similar. The most probable path is for Shin to end up with Hiromi, since because Shin is dating Noe, there's a better chance Aiko will end up with Shin than Noe. Of course, this is all analysis based on my levels of comprehension, but the chances of a guy liking a girl, goes out with another girl instead, then finally doesn't end up with a girl he likes in the beginning, are very rare. I can only think of one other anime that pulled that off, and if True Tears decided to take that path, then it must have to continue with an excellent plot with lots of precise drama. From what I've seen though, True Tears definitely has what it takes to pull this off. The only way Shin will end up with Noe now is to put some distance between them for some time then finally realizes that he likes Noe best. And the other possibility is Hiromi. She's kinda pissed right now at everyone, so this makes it more probable that she will end up with Shin. That's how drama works. If this is the route True Tears will take, then it will have to deal with the possibility of incest and if that's an issue, or their father will reveal that they are half-related and the rest of the anime deals with that issue. I can't say I like this route much. And of course, there's Aiko. I don't have the slightest prediction of what will happen here, but I still thinks that her ending is more probable than a Noe ending. I thought that Miyokichi was being a little bit "selfish" this episode, but who wouldn't give up without a fight? What he says to Shin at the end seems to be the director's way to handle the triangle, and I think it was done well. If that's out of the way, then Aiko has a clear path of taking action, if she can. How she will do that, I haven't the slightest idea. Why did I write so much? That's because this episode was a pivotal turning out, or rather, it summarizes and verifies the hints the series gave us and our inferences from those hints. Every relationship in this series so far isn't a completely two sided one, and I'm looking forward to how that will be solved in the later episodes.

Also I don't think Shin's mother will be much of a problem from now on, she seems like she either regrets or feels guilty about what happened. Hopefully next episode we find out what she was going to tell Hiromi this episode before Shin interrupted. |

I thought he came out of things in a fairly positive light. Sure he could have handled the scene with Ai better, but other than the refusal to hear the truth (which I can understand to some extent) I didn't think he did much that was deserving of some of the hate displayed in this thread. Things like "the coward of cowards" ---- ---- As for Ai, well I can't say I was really hot on her before this episode and the things going on here have pretty much cemented my position regarding her. I suppose you could say she's been dealt bad hand after bad hand in love, but some of her actions and particularly the timing of those actions... ugh... don't help matters. Especially as it came after that scene with Noe. |

Im glad i decided to wait a day before posting on this episode. Does anyone else have the urge to punch Jun and Shin'ichiro followed by a pimp slap to Hiromi. God I love this show because it actually makes me feel. Shin imo is just lost at this point he is going with the flow and not directing his life instead having his own life directed. In his own extensive wisdom he deduced that he liked Noe because he has been thinking about her lately and not Hiromi. He never considered the fact that he has spent more time with Noe as of late than he has with Hiromi which is probably why he has been thinking about her. I feel Noe's feelings are genuine and she ended up liking Shin without even noticing, because of the conversation with her brother. Noe blushing and running away was extra cute it was to die for especially when she made Shin write out that he liked her. Im not sure he has the types of feelings for her that he thinks he does. If he had not been pressured by by Jun who threaten to break up with Hiromi if he didnt hurry up, i dont feel he would have asked Noe out as fast as he did. He was making some progress but now it just seems he has stumbled back a bit.
Hiromi didnt get much screen time but her time was well used to show Noe is very observant of Shin and of course she thought Hiromi was the cause of the Shins depression (which is true) that little cat fight was awsome as I think Noe's words did some serious damage. No one even bothered to tell Noe that Hiromi and Jun are apparently dating. Hirmomi and Shin and moving away from each other and its both their faults for not communicating but in this situation i cant say it would easy neither of them are being honest and its breaking them. Shin's dad finally breaks his silence and shows some signs that he is aware of the current situation in the house. Shin's dad asked him what his mother had said, Shin being the retard he his says nothing much. Well he had been brooding over the possibility that he and Hiromi could be related here was his opportunity to at least get the truth and he passed on it. I was so happy to see Ai trying to take control of her life. She was going to tell Nobu the truth but he didnt want to hear it he knew what was coming. I still think that Ai loves Shin the most out of all the girls. Yet i felt sad for her finally when she getting ready to resolve everything Shin gets in a relationship it must have been devastating. But man what a kiss did she lay on him i believe it was the first kiss for them both so at least she has that memory. When the camera moved to the upper angle looking down and she was begging Shin to look at her too with watery eyes I mean what red blooded male could say no to that. Thing have become a mess i have no idea anymore who is going to end up with who. I am a huge Aiko fan so i still have hope I do like Hiromi and Noe as well but Aiko just seems to fit so much better with him. They have a history with no family complication and they have already been friends for along time and neither of them has a psycho brother shaddy ass brother. However, I would not be surprised if Nobu ends up with Aiko in the end. Its very VERY plausible what i will hate is if he ends up with her with no effort and continues his same old routine. He knows her favorite snacks ok great but what else does he know about her. Also, if Ai picks him as a consolation prize i wont like that either if this is going to happen they better give them some development together before it happens not an out of blue scenario. Because that way we know her feelings are real and we are not a repeat of the past like Shin and Hiromi's parents. Plus Nobu will wonder if she still has feelings for Shin its got to be mutual and right now she doesnt love Nobu. Episode 8 preview looking interesting. Hiromi looked so depressed on back of Jun's bike she has no feelings for him its obvious. Also it looked someone had a cloth over their face like someone had passed away i figured since we hear Shins mom talking about a woman who could get any guys we are going to have a flashback of sorts and maybe some answers about what happened with Hiromi's mom and Shins mom and their husbands. Wow i didnt think this episode was 10 worthy but a 1 REALLY? are we watching the same show?

Why do people keep on insisting that the couple who's going to win is obvious, without even mentioning who they think that obvious couple is? I mean, in this thread alone, there are already the 3 groups of people who think that each of the three girls has the most chance of 'winning'. Far from obvious, IMO.
Anyways... on to the episode. You know what really gets me? Shin recognizing Noe likes him, but he's completely oblivious to Aiko's. Hiromi though I can understand, since she's been trying to hide her feelings from even herself, let alone the person who likes her. But Aiko, who's been dropping off hints left and right since the beginning of the show? Just goes to show that he doesn't really see her that way. So I see her having no chance right now, unless the next episode shows otherwise. Doubt it though. At the very least though Aiko knows who her 'true' enemy is, lol. I mean, let's not kid ourselves here, Shin. You've liked Hiromi for a long time, get a revelation, distance away from her, and say that starting a new relationship with someone else has nothing to do with Hiromi? Sure, there might be some truth in that you like Noe, but it doesn't sound very convincing at all. And Noe hooking up with Shin halfway through the series? That in itself isn't saying much, but with Hiromi's sub-plot not over with? Death knell to Noe, if going by regular anime trends. I mean, how many anime in which a couple hooks up in the middle actually stay together till the end, especially when another girl's story is yet to be fully realized? Close to none, from memory. Of course one can counter that TT is anything but following the trend of other anime, so I won't write her out yet. Right now, Hiromi 70%, Noe 30%, Aiko 0%. Nobuse though, has it tough. While it's praise-worthy that there's no one in his eyes but Aiko, it's still very difficult to see someone you love pursue somebody else. Heck, that might be one of the reasons why Shin's mom hates Hiromi's mom so much. What I really want to know though is how Aiko and Shin met. We've seen his meeting with Noe, pretty much can deduce how he met with Hiromi since their parents know each other, but we're still left in the dark about the beginnings of Aiko and Shin's relationship. What I really want to see though is this... 1) Hiromi and Shin gives up their feelings for each other because of the possiblity of being siblings 2) They grow really close to the Jun and Noe respectively 3) Then in the climax, Shin's mom tells the truth that she lied back then, thus the two for sure are NOT related at all 4) Makes Hiromi and Shin rethink their feelings because the reason why they went with their 'second' choice is gone, but the conflict is that now they're too deep in their current relationship 5) Chaos ensues XD If that happens, I don't care who ends up with who. I would love the drama and conflict too much to care, since it would be just tantalizing. Of course though, I'll always hope for double 'incest' FTW! As for spoiler tags, I say less the better, especially in these specific eps threads. Reason why is that most people forget to properly tag the spoilers, and in many different cases, I've had the misfortune of opening an unmarked spoiler. I open it thinking it had spoilers only for the specific episode, but ended up being spoilers for the game or manga or whatever. Needless to say, being anti-spoilers, I wanted to murder somebody... >_> And really though, whats the purpose of spoiler tagging info from an episode in the same episode thread? If one doesn't want to be spoiled from raws, then why even bother coming to the episode thread in the first place? What could they hope to glean information from such a thread without being spoiled, or heck, what kind of meaningful discussion can they provide? If one doesn't want to get spoiled, just avoid the thread until the fansubs come out, as there's really no reason to visit such a thread until one has seen the episode. Of course, even I forget where I am sometimes and spoiler tag out of force of habit, lol. ^^;
