Aniplex US follows it's higher up counterpart, Aniplex Japan. And the cheaper one I know is the Blu-Ray movie standard edition.

It really is a sad marketing scheme. After all they only profit off some of us via the few they sell. They haven't done this to any other series I know of and there are a few popular ones in there, fate/ stay night. the enitre collection and movie cost less than full vol 1 and 2 of Madoka.
Petty such a good series, with the promise of more to come.

Fate/Zero: $370 (now $150 [$60 for DVD]) Bakemonogatari: $150 Durarara: $150 Gurren Lagann: $550 ($150 DVD) I don't wanna make an Aniplex thread with polls or it's going to be a bash flamethread with "Die Aniplex" as the post thread.... Spoiler for Poll: What do you think of the pricing scheme?:
And they don't need much of a sale anyway, they just need to sell a little and they would profit a lot.

And let's be honest with ourselves here; Madoka is only "mainstream" in the otaku community. It's hard to market right, and even then cheap disks most likely won't make as much.
As for Madoka's TV rating...kinda getting the feeling that the 3rd film and any future installments in the series will be darker than the first TV series.
