Kaoshin_Sama: No one person could construct a list like that by themselves and have it hold any weight for the simple reason that it's impossible that you watched all those series. I mean, how can you be certain that Kashimashi outranks Ghost Hunt unless you've seen both?
1. I find your low opinion of modern anime fans almost personally insulting. This may not be the case, but it's easy enough to suspect from your posts that you think the majority of anime fans are bandwagon-jumping morons who derive their opinion of a given title by the number of memes it spawns and its popularity rather than forming their own opinions of the show from what they see when they're watching it. There are probably a group of people that let outside influences like hype influence their opinion but I'd suspect such people are a minority. If anything it's more likely than not the detractors who let hype set their overly lofty expectations whose opinions are more influenced by other people than what they see on screen than the people who like the show. 2. We get that your opinions are at odds with that of the standard modern anime fan. Why are you so vindictive about it? What benefit is it to you that people agree or disagree with you? I mean, really, there are always going to be people that disagree with your preferences in anime. It's that diversity among anime fans that makes the medium so rich, IMO. Anime is starting to more and more cater to a wider variety of fans and genres. Isn't that for the better? 3. Who really cares about a popularity list? Never mind your wild conspiracies regarding mass 4chan invaders stuffing the ballot, but it's an inconsequential poll on the internet that will be forgotten about in 2 or 3 days time. At most it will serve as a recommendation to people who haven't seen the top titles on the list. Your own opinion will never align with the populous, but hardly anyone's ever does because of, again, the diverse array of tastes in anime fandom. Really, why care? 3. Compared with most other genre fans, you have an almost tunnel vision of the mecha and action genres. And then you seemingly accuse other fans of having an unfair bias against the mecha genre. I can equally accuse anime fans of having massive bias against the slice-of-life genre if I so wished, but I really don't see the point. All genres have their list of outstanding anime and their list of failures and it isn't until you've sampled both ends of the spectrum in all genres that you can really appreciate that no one genre is better than the other all the time, and more often than not it's a matter of taste and execution and little more. Sure, the mecha genre may have had some outstanding examples of stories and characters in the past but it's not like the genre singlehandedly pioneered the concepts we're seeing in anime now. I mean, the slow rise to prominence of slice-of-life anime over the last half decade is pushing it's own 'evolution' in anime storytelling that we're in the midst of right now with some of the best examples of raw character development the medium has seen (or, at the very least, that I've seen from the medium). And that's not something that's totally exclusive to a single time period... we can go as far back as Maison Ikkoku and before to see the birth place of a lot of the ideas that are suddenly coming back into prominence over the last few years in titles like Honey & Clover and Bokura ga Ita and even in School Rumble. My point is, the mecha genre isn't the be-all-and-end-all of anime (and never has been) and people aren't going to agree with you if you try to push that down their throats. Fair enough. You like mecha. If people accuse the genre of growing stale (which I probably think is the case, but that's a debate for another thread between people with more experience in the genre than myself), it's not an attack against you and you shouldn't get so defensive when a popularity contest doesn't go your way. But your insufferable "80s elitism" and your frequently unfair (and extreme) condemnation of modern anime fans makes it hard to align with you when you do bring up fair commentaries on anime. I think you need to take less to heart the opinions of other anime fans because it's clear they don't align with your own. I also think you need to stay away from 4chan and drop the idea that it's representative of the larger anime community, because it hasn't been for several months when certain counter-cultures and counter-counter cultures began to dominate and the actual discussion of anime that was once a regular event was quashed. I think you need to remember that what you're preaching is opinion and you can't preach it as fact and that you can't force people to dive into history over what is, for most people, a casual pastime. And, so I'm actually on topic (I didn't even realize this poll existed until a few hours ago) my own re-arranged top 10 list. 1. Honey & Clover II 2. Bokura ga Ita 3. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 4. Death Note 5. Ouran High School Host Club 6. Kanon 2006 7. Asatte no Houkou 8. ARIA the Natural 9. Red Garden 10. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Mushishi and Akagi would both be on that list if it also counted titles that started in 2005, but rolled over into 2006, and Marimite OVA would have also had more than 1 OVA been released by now.

- Ah! My Goddess! Season 2 (based on my favorite manga)
- Aria the Natural (watching every episode made me feel good) - My Otome Zwei (my favorite type of fanservice - cute girls, materialize and a lot of action) - Red Garden (interesting and unusual) - Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (just hilarious, but not in a stupid way) Wouldn't say all of them were great, but it doesn't have to be superb to be favorite.

This thread has been pretty useful as a resource to check out some good anime that I have missed. There are several titles that I still wish to check out when I have time (Higurash and Hantsuki in particular, thanks Skyfall), too bad I'm so busy this college semester. >_<
Ah well, I'll try. |

1 :: Higurashi - The most awesome of 2006. Had me thinking more than any other show I've seen in 2k6 and I like that~
2 :: Code Geass - No pansy-wansy for a lead character~ ^^ 3 :: HanTsuki - Beautiful; short and sweet 4 :: Kanon 2k6 - I am a big key fan 5 :: Rozen Maiden: Oubert - Suigintou's past~ 6 :: SuzuHaru - Interesting and unique retelling of a very old and used story. 7 :: Shakugan no Shana - Honestly, Shana alone is bringing this here. |

I watched an enormous bulk of anime last year.. More so than in 2005. I'm afraid I enjoyed alot of them, but cannot remember them all.. >.<
But, however, Elfen Lied is still at the top of my list, and will most likely stay there until the last pile of dirt hits my coffin. |

As far as i think Ghost Hunt is one of the best!
But kanon is way up their to... Second but still high is Death note -Black Lagoon -Welcome To NHK I guess this is my top 5 list for 2006. But if you would still count One piece as from 2006 sense it is still running that would be number ONE! Last edited by Long_Dead; 2007-03-04 at 17:18. |
