No way, I can hardly think of any harem protags who would brush the girl off like Hikigaya if they were in his situation. They won't make immediate reaction but will most likely work towards that intimacy at least in romance-based manga. They won't flat out reject Yui if she came towards them. The exceptions are the characters who already has someone in mind or very unique personality like Kyon.

Under the pretext he thought any interest shown by girls cannot be genuine. Which is the same as your generic harem protagonist monologue about 'why would this girl fall for me?'. Sure it's handled with a bit of background..but at the end of the day, playing on the same strings.

At least his self denial is not because of insecurity which is far too common for romcom lead, but because he is just twisted. The fact that he can only respond to the type of treatment Yukino and his teacher give out and sees kindness, both fake and sincere like Yui’s as unreal, proving that normal relationship can't even work on him, nevermind the romantic one.

From my point of view Hikki is actually insecurity incarnate. I'd even say his twisted view is nothing more than what he tells himself to cover for this insecurity/weakness, even if it has some truth in it (or perhaps, BECAUSE it has some truth, it's easier to be drowned in it).
