There's a reason why the Soviet Union never went all out in a war with the United states and instead stuck to proxy wars. They have more to lose than to gain. And given the fact that China and the US' economys' are tied together it's ludicrous to think they would want to drag themselves into an actual fight. And given that the US controls the Japanese army or has a say in the matter there's a limit to what they can do anyways. Sabre rattling is one thing, actually going forward with guns blazing is another. |

Note: A large number of Chinese citizen are getting older. Plus, imagine the structure in which a sole son has to support his parents, two grandparents, and maybe his wife and child. Pulled out the main support, and it will all go down.

Different sort of problem.
China's is state sponsored and if it went as wrong as some speculate, the Chinese population could because much smaller in a generation or two, and made up of mostly men. Then you have several hundred million men with not enough women. If that generation then passes on while maintaining civil order and laws, the extra men will die childless (their family lines ending I suppose), and reduce the population even more for balance. If not, then they are either going to move to other countries were they can have a woman, break the laws (multiple men per woman or a lot of rape) or start invading other countries for their women. Japan seems to be balancing social pressures in a logical manner. Or I suppose that is logical.

Then, two sexes polygamy? And beside, one-child could be countered with extensive funds for the mother and child. Just look at some Northern Europe countries.
Summon death heroes and then transplant their souls to people? Guaranteering good genes, good fighting force, and encourage the young male to do all crazy things for the sake of heroism? Invent Superpower Exoskeleton Suits that could only piloted by women, in order to attract healthy girls to Japan? Searching for Hell and Heaven, releasing loose souls, find a God, and let that God woo - or "fix" - the imperfect host? |

What is odd about Japan is that the number of births hadn't changed all that much in the last 25 years. But the number of deaths has started to go up a lot. The number of people dying per year is up at the levels of World War II (aside from the Allied bombing increase in 1945). The number who die per year went up by about 400,000 verse the number being born only went down by about 200,000 in those 25 years.
There is still over million babies born every year in Japan. Just that every year over 1.2 million die. One assumes that the remains of pre-War population dying afer all this time that has bumped up those numbers. The number of males in the breeding age population is only slightly higher than that of the females in Japan (there are slightly more females in the over 65 age, but that stands to reason as women tend to live longer than men, and a large part of the male population of Japan of that age group would have died during the war.) It seems to becoming around 105 men to every 100 women in the next generation. China still has over 16 million children born every year with less than 10 million dying each year. Their problem is that if the laws and traditions are maintained, the percentage of male to female is going to get more and more wonky. With the 15 and under group it is getting to be something like 118 boys to 100 girls, or something like that. It is averaging 106 men to 100 women now, but that's also due to the old grannies living long live and all the men that died during the wars in the 1930s to 1950s (and so on).

Hey, did Japan's pact to America forbid them to use Mercernary or PMC?
Also, do you know that every Chinese college freshmen have to go through a short-term boot camp? And Korea also has a similar program. I wonder if they have something like that in Japan. |

Japan does not have mandatory conscription into the armed forces...which shouldn't be very surprisingly, since their constitution technically forbids them from having an armed forces. The most they could get away with post WW2 (with US nudging) was a volunteer "Self-Defense Force".

The effects of the one-child rule, and parents resulting preference for having a boy, shows up especially in the under-25 groups: The 25-29 year-olds appear to have roughly similar numbers of men and women, as do the older generations. In the 0-24 demographics, males substantially outnumber females.

Abe Eyes Window for Biggest Military-Rule Change Since WWII:
"Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, pressed by China and seeking to strengthen ties with the U.S., is considering Japan’s biggest change in military engagement rules since World War II." See: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-0...tml?cmpid=yhoo |

America Has No Answer to China’s Salami-slicing:
"John Mearsheimer recently argued that China is pursuing in Asia what the United States has in Latin America: regional hegemony. In pursuit of that goal, China keeps trying to take territory, bit by bit, in the East and South China Seas. And the United States doesn’t know what to do about it."
