Because SSY simply has the better story and a lot more focus on the mystery and fleshing out the setting & characters well. But Franxx' beach episode reminds me of when the SSY kids found something from the past civilization during a trip (trying not to spoil here). There's also the fact that one girl from their group got dispatched early on (Naomi/Reiko); We have the one kid who is the coolest & smartest of the group who is also the love interest of the MC who seems to know more about the secret of their society (02/Shun); We have the loud & energetic one who is more than happy to accept and live his life to serve the society (Zorome/Satoru); We have a member who is mostly useless, cowardly and only care deeply of his girl-friend (Futoshi/Mamoru); and we have the beauty who accompanies the useless member (Kokoro/Maria). You can probably also make a case of both MCs (Hiro/Saki). Plus, Franxx has a Sai-clone from SEED called Goro .

I gotta say, the similarities are pretty amusing. The show really feels like a hodgepodge.

And Franxx still haven't done anything impressive with the said amalgamation so far and certainly haven't exceeded the aforementioned shows and films that it borrowed the artistic things from. At this point, it still feels like an amalgamated-knockoff (complete with all the Eva-ish visuals) . They need to do better after the beach episode. Kokoro & Mitsuru seem to be going in an interesting direction and the setting still interests me. And hey, we get action next week, hurrah!

I take it you haven't been following Nearly On Red's deep dive into this show?

Because Franxx is already saying a LOT

Are we really going through this route again? If so then I'll just quote myself again:

Believe me, mate. If people can make a long analysis out of a crap movie like Batman v Superman, that means people can make a long analysis of any kind of works, be it good or bad. There's a whole lot of things going on in that messy movie but they don't amount to a good film. I'm not saying that FranXX is as bad as BvS (yet). I'm just saying that a long analysis is neutral in nature. A long analysis doesn't necessarily indicate a good (or bad) feature.

But this is still early in FranXX story. So I'm obviously not judging the whole show yet. Who knows? It might get better from here.

Ooooooooookay looks like I have to refrain from visiting this topic for several days again due to all the unmarked spoilerage.

And please don't give me any of that "If you don't want to be spoiled by us maybe you should have spoiled yourself first.". Like, I know there isn't a hard rule enforcing this, but I thought maybe common decency would be a thing.

Indeed, what kind of spoilers? To my knowledge there is no episode out yet. If he means the comments above predicting what is going to happen those are speculations and not spoilers.

The only way to spoil yourself in an original show is by behind behind the episodes that aired.

I was talking about the people talking about things that apparently happen in the episode that will be released this weekend because they watched the spoiler material.

Or how last week people were talking about "the beach episode" days before the episode was released. In a show that doesn't seem to do "On the next episode" bits. Look it's fine. I'm just going to have to refrain from visiting this thread after wednesday or so. I mean it would be nice if that wasn't necessary but it seems to be the only way.

Dear goodness...even talking about Previews is troublesome to you?
I really don't get anti-spoiler people at all...
