This episode is much better than the last, although it doesn't say much other than foreshadowing big events happening in the next few episodes thanks to the proper introduction of Kongou and Maya, who are apparently part of the Fleet of Fog. On the other hand, Hyuuga fantasizes less over her sexual desires and prefer concentrating on things that were said to be done, such as the meeting between different naval members. Although Kongou's motivations sounded mysterious, her aura is so as well. As for the cliffhanger, I might go on her being the final boss during the climax but I feel like the story is still ongoing.
For bonus, I chuckled at Kirishima being drown by the sea, it was hilarious although it only takes in a short time.

Kongou critising meaningless talk, while engaged in it made me laugh. But than she proved she still have a small fraction of her edge left.

Also it was fascinating see characters actualy move and even have expressions! fight between Takao and Kongou was also nice to watch. If battle of Okasabe mansion was done with same effort it would spare me lot of rage.

So in the end it wasn't bad episode. (And yeah Nagara battleship)

Shows how I've been playing too much KanColle when that little detail sticks out. But yeah, Nagara was a light cruiser, and NOT a battleship.

Spoiler for Things I liked and a question.:

Seeing as how this is pretty much an all anime original episode, I liked a lot of the details they threw in, such as the robotics factory, the ore drilling facility, the trolling of Haruna, Kirishima "swimming", the Iona figures Hyuuga had in her room, and of course Makie doing complex math in the sand alongside Maya.

So, what did that single bite of food on Kongo's plate signify?

Y'know...episode 8 reminded me a lot of the moon lit tea party episode in Noir. I guess that would make Kongou like Chloe and here they had skewers instead of tea forks. Wonder what the significance of the one bite of green pepper will be.

Done with episode 8... Well I guess I'll just be waiting to see Kongou getting her stern ass torpedoed kicked. Not much of a fan of her actions in this episode. And see where the story goes from there...

First fully original episode and well...vs Kongou already, Iwonder what will happen next. Naturally would have preferred the manga story but the anime one doesn't seem offensive so I will stick with it.

And Iona got ashamed because Gunzou saw her in dat swimsuit, so cute.

Considering Kongo took a bite of that pepper ... Her personality archetype seems to be the Defrosting Ice Queen ... Hehe, cute.

Appears to be emotionless and stubborn, yet has a secret side where she's still open to new ideas, and willing to try them. (Yet is too afraid to go against her ideals, thus puts on a tough fort.)

In other words, she's a Laura Bodewig (Infinite Stratos) clone.

Still, I'm surprised though...

Maya is obviously showing signs of becoming 'humanized' ... Presumably because she is more simple and open minded as opposed to Kongo ... Critical to note that she didn't want to leave. I'm surprised Kongo doesn't catch on to these fact, or why she thought that hiding their cores would prevent them from humanizing.

It's also quite evident that Kongo herself began changing too:
1. Her response to trying tea for the first time.
2. Her curiosity as to how Gunzo is affecting the mental models.
3. Her (secretly) trying the food.

I'm guessing the reason she doesn't notice is because she doesn't know what's happening to them.

In the end, Gunzo outsmarts everyone yet again.

I know a (logical) power debate for an anime like this will be so boring, where clearly most ships shown so far was not there to fight, but to feel.....
I actually don't see how Gunzo can be in a tight spot with what he has on his hand.

3x Battleship mental models, (most Hyuuga's weaponry are operational)
1x heavy cruiser in perfect condition
1x Attack submarine in perfect condition
+a crew of competent humans, a designer child (an item Haruharu will protect with her life)

Against a fleet consist of
1x Battleship
1x Heavy cruiser
2x Nagara-class light cruiser

He can simply put 2 battleship cores defending base, rest counter attack with Takao and Iona.

I believe it was 8 Nagara-class light cruisers. Anyway it cannot be 2 because we see more than 2 on screen at any one time.

Also, why are the Fog acting as if corrosive torpedoes are scarce? Takao wasn't shy about using 128 of them at once.

Ironically there was a mistake I just relaized now...
Kongou was bragging about how her core is better than Iona's and the rest of them because she and Maya could use decoy MM's

Looking at the Data displayed in the intro Iona has a better core though .

other than that, she also directed it to Takao who has the exact same core as Maya

Well that is a bit pointless unless they have changed how MM work from the manga since any MM can a decoy since the cores don't need to be in the MM. So any one can be a decoy

This episode left me puzzled, it's not bad but it's not interesting enough to be called good, it's just... tedious and weird, it's not the Ars Nova I know from the previous episodes.

There's also some problem with the writing, Kongou coming ashore is just out of place. Normally you'd never go to the enemy's hideout to discuss about the incoming showdown unless you're on the weaker side, it means trap most of the time, which also happened in this episode. But that's not as weird as her decision to join Gunzou's meal. The old Kongou would never go along with the flow that easily!

On the bright side, Haruna and Kirishima being comedy relief is a big plus. Had it not been for their appearance I might have stopped watching halfway.

I guess this Ars Nova-Kongo is indeed different since imo she's been given a liiiittle bit of Yamato's personality in the anime. So maybe she can just "go with the flow" sometimes .

I want to type more, but too sleepy right now. This 8th episode is not my favorite, that's for sure.
