Kira doesn't get the flash itself, but he senses Rau and leaves Athrun and Cagalli because of it. Rau for his part gets two flashes from Kira's approach.

Makes sense too. The good doctor clearly wanted Kira to be as far above the norm as he could make it, and he had access to the La Flaga genes...

Well, then Fukuda clearly forgot about it then, as the interview doesn't mention him, and that interview was from after Seed aired and before Destiny aired.

Its execution quality has nothing to do with newtype or magic.

Their only newtype connection (aside from sensing each other's presence) is the sense that Rey and Rau are similar, if not the same person, a conclusion which Kira rejects.

And Rey only agreed with Kira during Kira's conversation with Durandal, which again has nothing to do with newtype or magic or Jedi mind trick.

The way I see it, he was trapped in a painful cage for so long that when Kira showed him a way out, he immediately went and turned on his captor.

Rey WAS unstable. He deeply regretted being genetically identical to Rau, a man who wanted to destroy everything. So he vehemently follows Durandal (a man who wants to SAVE everything) to prove how much unlike Rau is.

Unfortunately Durandal's plan follows the idea that your genes define who you are. Which would mean he is just like Rau (same genes).

Rey believes both that he is proving himself the complete opposite of Rau AND that he is the exact same as Rau. Cognitive Dissonance to the extreme. Kant's very definition of madness.

See the entirety of Asuki forum alone. How many threads of shows from 2003-2005 is still this active talking and debating about the same or similar things over and over again? Even if there are any, those are few and far between and pretty much exception to the rule. Even Gundam 00 thread(s) has been properly abandoned because there’s no new news and there’s nothing new to talk about the anime (and Gundam 00 is really popular).
