What's odd about the pig orcs? They're present in the original novels.

For all appearances so far, the anime looks to be using the novels as the basis, rather than the manga (well, apart from Rory's new look which deviates from both).

I'm interested in seeing how they portray Kurokawa and Kuribayahi. I am hoping they draw them as they did Itami, and leave the moe looks to the peoples from the other world.

even with the char design alternations its not bad. compared to the LN pics its well suited. i mean are we really gonna nitpick the fact that a skirt is a bit short? idc about that i care about A1 not fucking it up. if they stay faithful and avoid dips in quality (looking at u sao 2) then im fine.

Yeah, Pina, the Emperor, and all of his families and the Senate better look ancient Rome.
It's clearly stated that they are supposed to look like Romans, and the manga got it down perfectly.

I'm more worried about Togas or lack thereof than whether Rory's dress is gothic enough or not.

Okay...pig-ish looking orks from novels do NOT equate to something out of D&D animated where you expect Vger and Dungeon Master to pop up in the next scene. And I didn't see ANYTHING looking remotely like the goofy things from the trailer depicted anywhere in the manga.

@ aohige: I listened to HSotD opening....and thought it was AWFUL! Then again I was listening to the live band video and not the animation itself.

Pig orcs are pretty much a Japanese staple though. Besides, D&D is the inspiration for... just about every Japanese fantasy setting ever.

And the manga actually truncates a lot of things from the novels. Try not to use the manga as the basis for what the anime might do.

There are pig orcs and then there are pig orcs. These are not in the "GOOD" pig orcs category. And I'll use the manga as a basis simply because the artwork is actually worthy of the novel...not simply expedited mediocrity done in a rush. I kinda live by the phrase "Half right is still half assed" with my own works. Forgive me if I expect others to have a little pride and feel the same.

In fact, I always figured the Empire used the orcs the way the real-world Romans used races such as Gauls, Germans etc- as auxiliary troops. In fact, the Empire sent the orcs out ahead of their main legions as "cannon fodder".

Point taken with regard to the manga, though they seem to have gone mostly with the manga design (I think), and in this case, looking at the image, not all of the orcs have pig-like noses.

There were piggy orcs on the manga's splash page of chapter 1 so meh, its OK. Besides they should be easier to draw the cannon fodder

I am really interested in seeing more character models, especially Kurokawa, Kuribayahi, Yao, Bozes and Pina.

I'm sorry but these character designs just don't look right to me...Sure I can get used to it but still...Lelei just comes off as generic moe Rory doesn't seem to be well loli enough.
