Another buildup episode. Seems like they are really getting the team ready for what they're going to face in the future.
I hope the hype for the upcoming match is worth it especially for Riku, the guy who has been struggling with his own personal demons.

Episode 10
So Riku's problem is that he gives up – once the person in front of him takes the lead, he gives up thinking that there's no point in running since that guy's just too fast for me. And because of this mindset, he always slows down towards the end. Another thing is that Riku thought that everyone is in it for himself. He thought that if it wasn't him, the other person could jus run with someone else. That's what he thought Tomoe was doing as Tomoe didn't press Riku further after Riku said he quit. Tomoe just wanted someone to run with and unintentionally pushed Riku a bit too much for which he apologized after Riku said he's quitting stride. Fujiwara didn't leave Riku – he stayed there and told Riku that he wants to run with him since they're friends. And this helps Riku overcome his fear and while racing Fujiwara, he ends the race with a sudden acceleration just like the Kakyoin boys. And now Fujiwara will also want to speed up. |

Looks like Honan did win after training and promises.
I really feel like episode 11 is more of a finale even though there's still one more episode left. Rather predictable but Honan definitely deserved it especially after seeing how hard everyone worked.

This was a good episode after the last two seemed to set it up, especially how it ended with the story of them as kids, that the other two forgot.... that's rather classic, but well done I thought from the last episode to this one.
So far, only city events, I'd still like to see it expanded to the countryside for a change of locale, obstacles etc.... maybe if they have a season 2? Though, then new characters would be needed for the next schoolyear... unless they jam in another season before the elder students graduate... and we get more from the girl's father as a competitor etc. |

Episode 11
So, as expected, Honan beats the singing boys by a close margin. Even though the result was predictable, the race did have some excitement to it. Turns out, only Fujiwara remembered that the three met some seven years ago and made a promise to win the EOS after joining Honan. And the other two members just suddenly remembered that they all met before and made such a promise. Riku is now starting to find stride to be fun and now wants to race against his onii-san. And now the race against Kakyoin will start. Now to see whether Honan defeats them or loses to them in an obviously close encounter race. They can do either, but I'm personally leaning towards thinking that Honan will win through the power of friendship or something lol. |

If Honan loses in the last episode then I expect there to be another season. But I don't think that will happen.
I kind of felt bad for defeating Seisei (spelling?). They were good friends and really taught/supported Honan even though they are the opponents.

Uh yeah, I liked this show on occasionally but overall it didn't work for me in the end. Episode 11 felt more like a climax to me rather than the finale. On a brighter note, some of the soundrck of this series is neat.

I... Huh. That was kind of anticlimatic, I'm not gonna lie. The intensity of the previous episode was just so much more on point. Not to say I thought the episode was bad in itself, it just didn't really feel like a final episode. I don't know whether it was because of the flashbacks that cut the majority of the race or because most of the storytelling/animation effort was put into the initial run with Kakyoin or what. But it just lacked "oomph" to me.

Episode 12 (Finale)
So Honan wins. Nice to see Tomoe having fun. His brother is finally enjoying the sport he tried so hard to pull him into. The race was exciting. They showed it in among flashbacks which I didn't mind much, but it certainly did take away a bit of the excitement. They should have shown more of the race. The way they ended things by not showing the result until the magazine pages flipped was nice, but they should have shown more of the last leg of the race at least. Overall this was a good show. The main problem was that they didn't exactly manage to make the drama anything good enough. The problems the characters had were a bit stupid I think. Kinda pointless issues made so big, in a way. The animation also dropped at some point. The visuals were okay but not something exceptional. Or maybe I'm saying this as because Prince of Stride comes after Madhouse's brilliant run last year. And comparing this to most of what Madhouse had to offer last year, this certainly isn't up there at all. If they had upped the animation quality at least, it would have been better because I'm not sure how much they could have fixed the issues with the characters troubles and stuff. One more standout point was the soundtrack which made the races better. Overall there was room for improvement but the exciting races and the soundtrack almost made up for what was lacking. |

That was such an anti-climatic end for a sports anime. I was expecting them to do serious aerials and racing like in previous eps but this...such a let down. We didn't even get to see Yagami dash through the finish line. Booo!!!

4/10; bordering 3/10
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It had its moments, but they didn't make up for how utterly shallow and rushed this show was. It didn't focus on sports enough to be a good sports anime, nor did it give the character relationships enough depth to make it a character driven series. I mean, half of the characters' lines, especially Kuga's, feel like they came from a cliché script generator. It didn't feel like an otome adaptation either. My guess is that Madhouse was trying to spit out something along the lines of Free, but it was so focused on filling out its "checklist of tropes that sell" that it failed to create any meaningful characters, story, or humor. The conflicts were contrived, the drama utterly forced, and the resolutions a joke. E.g., a life-long inferiority complex is solved by slapping hands and a snow cone. Then again, apparently this series believes that every conflict can be solved by slapping hands and no other execution. Pretty faces aren't enough to salvage this. |
