Watching Saki is the worst way to learn Mahjong, but most of us weren't here to learn it, but enjoy the tremendous entertainment it gives.

Because there wasn't any to peek at
Btw, at least Saki can get you to be hooked to Mahjong in the first place. That was the case for me. It got me hooked because it was rather similar to card games. I've had my fair share of yakumans since then, though I still can't get the hang of counting the scores for the lower hans. I'd let the mahjong softwares do that for me.

So it would seem that our Saki "season 2" is in fact a spin-off...
http://www.animenewsnetwork.co.uk/in...achika-spinoff Hmm, an interesting development. I had heard that the manga was going quite slowly, but I didn't realise it still wasn't far along enough, even after two years... o_o;;; Since I haven't read this spin-off, I wonder how much of it there is. Enough for one or two cours perhaps? I am a bit disappointed (seeing as I wanted to see the national tournament with Saki and her older sister), but as long as I get to see a bit more epic mahjong, it should still be be cool methinks... ^_^;;; O-O~

OHHHH NOOOOOESS!
Does that mean I won't get to see my Nodoka-chwan~?!! Well I can understand them doing this cause the manga is indeed very slow going and I will admit I'm interested in this as long as it has the same kinda feel as the 1st season, over the top mahjong indeed!

I don't see why "manga going slowly" is a valid reason, since Aguri Igarashi's spin-off manga has less than 5 chapters itself. Though the amount of content covered by Ritz Kobayashi each chapter is on Bleach level, theres still more material to adapt than the spin-off manga.

They are going to base it on the Achiga hen manga? DO WANT. In that case they may be able to pull something interesting off. The series is basically about Nodoka's mahjong friends from elementary school making it big in the inter high. It's good, at least judging from the 2 manga chapters released so far. Plus the character designer is the same person who does Bamboo Blade. Good stuff.
I'm guessing now the manga chapters released so far were just for testing waters and see how people received the spin off.

Well, this is a bit disappointing to me.
It's still possible that I'll like the Saki spin-off, and I'll probably check it out, but a lot of what I liked about the Saki anime was the characters. If they're not there, then I'm going to have to be won over anew by a cast of characters that are new to me. That's certainly possible, but it's not a sure thing, like my fondness for Nodoka, Hisa, and Saki herself.

Well thats more than good enough for me
And in any case I think it's a better bet to let em mess around with a spin off rather than the main series itself if it ain't really gone anywhere

It's true ... she does ... sort of as the catalyst character for the other main characters of the spin-off. (I hope that was not too spoiler'ish?)
