I have to admit that I'm still not impressed. The overall tone just seems depressing. Kind of like the movies. I think that's why I liked SAC more.
So it's officially a prequel then? Is it also going to cover her days in the military? I mean, that's way they call her "major" isn't it? I seem to recall hearing that somewhere. |

I'm said they changed the voice cast, but I can't say no to Maaya Sakamoto.
It's disappointing this isn't a full-fledged series but I'll take what I can get. The PV was pretty good. Is this a reboot that takes place in a new universe or is this a prequel to SAC?

Well, Considering Maaya voiced a younger/little girl version of Kusanagi Motoko in a 1995 Film and reprise the same role years later in Oshii's 2.0 remake. She should be the most reasonable and probably the only choice to play 'a young Kusanagi' if they choose not to use Atsuko Tanaka again this time.

Some details about the characters from the official site:
Motoko is a major in the 501st Division in the army, some sort of special forces unit (secret service?). She runs into Aramaki when he consults her on a certain case. It's not clear where he's working, but probably at public safety (since he later starts Section 9 there). Togusa is a detective in the special investigations department for the Niihama Police Station. Paz is an undercover cop working for the military police, and he runs into Motoko during a deep cover operation. Batou is apparently investigating the murder of a coworker of his, and suspects Motoko is involved. The other characters don't really have any details other than their general description, so the first episode probably focuses on those five characters first. If you're counting a TV episode as 20 mins (without OP/ED), then realistically a 50 min OVA is more like 46 mins. We know the OP is a minute long, and for OVAs the ED is usually longer (2-3 mins). So it's more like 180-190 mins vs 240 mins. Almost a whole hour of difference! |

Motoko is bad ass because of her actions, not her appearance.

I just wish Shirow is still sane... I want him to get more involved, but the fact is the author who created GitS is a shadow of his former self. It's so sad to think there wouldn't be more GitS manga by Shirow. Even Shirow admits that it is just too hard for him.

I disagree. Her appearance counts. Clothes aside, the way she speaks and carries herself (and when she wears her combat jumpsuit) show her to be a dominant woman, in my opinion. Her actions obviously show that, but I do think her appearance plays in.
