What is the L-block effect?

Well, the Gamespot Character Battle, a voting competition between different video game characters. A while back the L-Block was thrown in there for more of a joke than anything else. However, as most joke entries go, the L-Block eventually topped the top running champions such as Cloud and Link.

And that is the L-Block effect.

Course it remains to be seen if that's just exactly whats happening here.

It's what happens when a non-serious candidate, if not an outright joke one, handily steals votes from the favourites to win, for whatever reason. It's a bit like waking up in the morning to find that the next President of the United States of America is Optimus Prime, via the popular write-in vote.
