I just watched the OVA and was especially unhappy with how they portrayed Amy on the abandoned ship. There was just too much "moe-ness" with her being scared and hanging on Ledo all the time. Yes, it gave the writers the opportunity for a little physical closeness between our mains, but it really seemed unlike the character Amy displayed in the actual series. Most of the time she is pretty strong and courageous, yet in the OVA she is cringing in fear once they board the ship.
I did like Ridget's part in this story, though. I also noticed that the director took every opportunity to have adult Ridget and Bellows stand in profile to the camera so their ample busts were on full display.

During a re-watch I have been thinking - where are the parents? All of the major characters are missing their parents - Melty has a grandpa and only Bellows and Ridget mentioned their father. There are very few 30 to 40 years old shown in the fleet. What happened to them? Storm? Lost expedition? Was it explained in the novels?
