Nodoka will appear as a 6th grader or is it 5th. But it's the time of elementary days. Loli Nodoka is already big even when she is small
The story so far from what the manga has shown is interesting for me. I like energetic girls to begin with plus all of the girls are all lovable

Well im both happy and sad really. Happy because so far i like the spin-off but i question with just the 3rd chapter coming out the 12th why now? On the other side im sad because that means that i wont be seeing my Saki season 2 just yet.

Nodoka transfers into different school in middle school so she is not the main feature of the story but her friends when she was young. If you follow the link to ANN. You will see a different set of girls.

Well, if they are doing an anime adaptation with only two chapters so far, it only means that they intended to do this from the start. This meaning that it doesn't really matter they only have two chapters, they probably already have prepared the chapters, or they contracted the scriptwriter in advance.

but the mah jong tournament play was the best part. plus since their powers won't be as developed, it probably wouldn't be as fun. the show doesn't really have a winning personality that can carry it through weaker portions.

They can still do that but still give us a interesting story, just slightly different from what we were expecting. And actually it could be interesting to see these girls develop their mahjong hax skills

Actually to be fair, we really do not know what fully to expect. Achiga Hen is still very much in its infancy as a manga - maybe we will be pleasantly surprised?
Anyway, I am going to give it a shot, even if I still would have preferred Saki and Teru in the "final face-off".

Know how to play, I guess a lot, but to be able to play properly, then not so many. I could understand the term, how to win, how to calculate point, but I still couldn't be able to archive a win base on my calculation.

I do. Online and Offline (still learning scoring though).
And just last week, I could have nailed my offline group with a Su An Kou. Had I Ron'd... it would have been Toi Toi, San An Kou, 2 Dora, and 2 Yakuhai - for a Baiman. But alas, I did not; and got Ron'd instead (but I didn't care).

Just finished reading the third chapter of Achiga Hen...damn, that's the second 80 page monster out of just three chapters so far, man. I've seriously never seen anything like this before. At the same time, as has been noted in this thread, the side story thus far has not featured a whole lot of mahjong...but like Proto mentioned earlier, I'm quite excited about the possibilities for the upcoming anime now. While the blazing pace of the manga means that they've certainly left plenty of room to fleshing out the actual matches in the side story, we're also already up to the nationals by the third chapter here, so they could easily interweave recent events from the main series into the new anime if they wanted to. This is handily addressing the lack of content/prolonged waiting issues we'd been worrying about with regards to the second anime being a straight continuation. Pretty awesome, actually.
At the same time: is it true that Ritz has been listed as the writer for the side series? 'Cause damn, with 80 page chapters like this, I can see why the main series' progress has been somewhat slow lately. I can forgive that now that I know about the second anime, however, 'cause I can just feel all of Saki, the spinoff, the anime production staff, etc. seriously revving up for it. |
