I don't think Shiraishi mother will take her offer back, but how much support she will give also leader if expedition have last word in many aspects, because if someone were to die it's not sponsor who will be held responsible.

Wow, to think I almost skip on this one due to fear of burning out this season.
Just watched all three episodes in a row and my god, this is good. Like, really good. The use of background details to showcase the emotions or highlight situations at that particular moment are great, but the best part by far is what I look for the most in any anime: the characters. They all become likable quickly after being introduced, and so far stay that way, and they all bounce each other beautifully; can't really blame Yuzuki for thinking they were best friends. Also, gotta give props to the soundtrack, specially that slow song that has played twice in the show already. This is definetly gonna be a good one. |

Thing is just traveling to Antarctica is very dangerous because the Atlantic Southern Ocean has extreme waves and winds. Then once you get to Antarctica you are faced with extreme cold that can be deadly if you are caught out. I wonder if this show will ever show the real risks.

Take a look at these monster waves in the Southern Ocean:

They're going to Syowa station in Antarctic summer, which means it won't be anywhere near as bad as it could be. There are times when it even gets (barely) above freezing there. Even at its worst Syowa station is unlikely to even reach -20C, unlike the horrifingly cold Vostok station, which has had recorded temperatures of -89.2C in mid July (Antarctic winter).

Watched episode 2:
Surprisingly good anime. Funny when they were trying find a man to trick in taking them along. On a more serious thinking... why would they not like to take Shirase. Perhaps they think she might do something crazy once they're there? Like for example, wandering out to look for her lost mom.

There also was an article on Crunchyroll from one of the guys who actually captains the ship that they're showing in the anime (yep, it's a real ice-breaker). He basically described the whole trip as tedious but fundamentally routine. One especially bad time they had to move forward at 100 m per day for a while as they kept having to back, take some speed and then ram the ice to advance.

Watched episode 3:
Honestly, the first episode bored me a little. But now things are getting interesting. Can't stop watching this anime. I thought they'd fall to their deaths before even boarding the ship - thank goodness just a dream. The problem seems to be solved... I hope. The final scenes at this episode looks like a new problem would appear.

You know it would have been really fitting if Shirase broke a toe when she smashed it into the doorway. Don't be reckless when you already want to do something pretty risky. Hitting something that isn't going to give a high speeds is not good for small bones...
Ok, the show kind of got me with that dream sequence . While I was thinking "isn't this a bit too insane" it didn't seem completely out of the realm of possibility for those crazy girls. That was an episode that felt good. A kind of win/win for everybody. The girls get to go and Yuzuki gets a chance to build some legitimate friendships. Certainly sad that it took something like this to give her that chance. Her mother has done wonders for her professional career, but certainly blanked out on the idea that her daughter might want a social life. A rough kind of power balance with her mother able to exert the dual pressures of parent and producer. Anyways. The cast is fun and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them interacting. A nice mix of personalities. Quote:

Great episode with things finally starting to kick off. I like how they’re doing training rather than just time skipping and heading off to Antarctica, like I originally thought they would.
It appears the leader isn’t related to Shirase and is instead just her mother’s friend. Looking forward to the next episode~ |

I'm sure there'll be opportunities for Todo and Shirase to have a heart to heart with each other regarding the latter's mother, but as it is this episode wasn't the proper time when considering all of the above.

In fact, there was no reason to have the captain there at all otherwise. Her meeting with Mari was both forced and unnecessary. It felt like it happened just because Mari is the MC and they have to shoehorn her everywhere.
