Usually you don't use medicine to fight a virus. You usually just suppress the symptoms and let the body do its work.

Either way, all of this was just to debunk the idea that the body died at the end of episode 3. Clearly it did not.

Even flu vaccines are only recommended for high risk groups, mostly elderly with serious chronic illnesses. If other, serious chronic illnesses are present and the person is weakened (old or very young), then the flu can cause life threatening complications. Relatively healthy people should be able to handle the flu with no problems using only home remedies like hot tea, vitamins, plenty of rest and so on. For healthy people to die from flu is extremely rare.

That said, new types of flu can be very dangerous. Viruses in general can (very rarely) jump species. When this happens, the new host species is extremely vulnerable - it has never encountered the virus before and hasn’t evolved any immunity. For example, a bird virus could mutate and start infecting humans. This is exactly what is believed to have caused the Spanish flu outbreak that killed almost 100 million people world wide in 1918. But, regular types of flu are nowhere near as dangerous. Our immune system is enough to handle most types of viral infections.
No, I was not talking about antivirals and certainly not antibiotics. Only a fool would use antibiotics for the flu. No I was talking about standard treatment for symptoms to keep them from going out of control. And again it's to a large extent "not a problem" in first-world countries. What you said later is closer to what I was getting at. And at least where I'm from the flu vaccines most certainly haven't been recommended "only for high-risk groups". Everyone's strongly encouraged repeatedly to be vaccinated regularly. And while rare, it is far from unheard of for even a healthy person to, as a result of some unforeseen factors or even just dumb luck, suffer severe, potentially crippling complications.

It is not just a matter of having enough food and medical technology: Ethnic background also influences your vulnerability to various diseases. Native populations in areas that had been isolated for a very long time died from the common cold, and some of them are still much more affected than Eurasians. While we generally talk about smallpox decimating the Americas, other diseases including the flu continued to kill large number of Native Americans well into modern times. Their current resistance is partly due to interbreeding with newcomers and partly to the horrors of unfettered evolution for many generations, killing as much as 95% of the original population of the Americas. Also many people on Pacific islands are more vulnerable than Eurasians.

Not sure how this is in Japan, I notice in anime it is a common trope that catching a cold leads to high fever. This must surely be an exaggeration, but I wonder if this smoke is entirely without fire? Did common virus infections perhaps represent a threat to the island people into historical times? I would not be surprised.

Japanese people have a fucking ludicrous work load and stress and that can lead to weakened immune systems.

I don't know, I've had the flu before and I never really had any medicine used. I was just unable to do anything for a while and had to have someone take care of me. There wasn't really any medical technology involved.

....Incidentally, the body in the actual show also survived the flu on its own without any outside interference.

Point being, people in developed countries simply have better immune systems.

"My real job is to exterminate parasites!"

Eosinphil impressed me tbh. She earned my respect especially after fighting that bacteria with the body under the effects of food poisoning.

Looks the Bacteria at work as that is one based on probiotics..but the raws of that are not online yet i think...

That Bacile was so philosophical yet like tuxedo kamen didn't do anything.

This manga is amazing with the design both cells and parasites, have been very unique that way, that means why is a sensation in japan.

this guy in the coat running mystery-like comment was funny, thought the sight of a guy with a long rain coat standing in front of two loli pateletes was...disturbing.

when WBC got eaten i laughed so hard, he's so awesome

RBC is always making awesome faces !

Eosinphil is best girl!

Also whenever ED begins somehow I loose control over my body and start swing like metronome. It's terrible condition.

Two things annoyed me:
- the cells disparaging Eosinphil. I mean, yes, I can understand wondering what she's here for. But she still stood between the civilians and the bad guys. She should get some respect.
- RBC rushing to the scene of every disaster. What does she think she is, a WBC? Doesn't she have her own duties?

Still, Eosinphil was cute and cool. All she lacked was some 3d maneuvering gear.

Finally! Best Girl episode appeared!!! <3 <3 <3
Too bad this is pretty much the only time we gonna see her, the hard-working Weakling made fun by all other cells but so important to fight the huge dragon-like parasites even the mighty MC is powerless against~
But was still great, a very informative episode, which clearly had a lot less budget than other episodes, but eh, whatever. Was still done nicely.
Kinda wanna see how those two were in Leukocyte school as little cells. That would be adorable.<3

Before being an RBC, she is an audience stand-in. Her prime duty is to be present for whatever fuckery is going on this week .

I think Tomokazu Sugita just channeled late Kaneto Shiozawa’s spirit with his performance in this episode.

Not the greatest episode. I liked the zombie apocalypse better. Still educational. There are white blood cells specifically for fighting parasites, huh?

I wonder if there are white blood cells that specialize in fighting other white blood cells.

Guys, found some pics of how Eosinphil and our White Blood MC as "children"! You think I can post two pics or will mods ban them? Also interesting that the pink outfit of Eosinphil fits her very well cause the cells also appear pinkish in the blood:

Spoiler for Looks like this in RL:

There aren't any immune cells that attack other immune cells. In general, the immune system is not supposed to attack other cells in body (unless they are infected). If it does you get autoimmune diseases. The exception are cancer cells that the immune system can recognize as abnormal and attack but usually it’s not very successful. Cancers very quickly escape immune control and sometimes even get the immune system to work for it. Guess this anime is more fun for people that are not medical or biology professionals. I have a degree in molecular biology so I already know all this stuff lol.

We have yet to get to Cancer cells though. But yeah, usually the Cell world would be far more gruesome like those Zombie Cells from the Virus? They would just explode with thousands of new virus coming out of their dead body not the cell running around like a zombie fighting white blood cells. Still funny zombie scene in the series though. Or the bacteria attacking and the white cells always being in time to prevent harm on any red blood cell? Normally bacteria would wreck havoc among red blood cells and kill a bunch before the white blood cells kills them all.

Still this is like a series meant for children to know more about their body, so it does a fine job in that regard. Maybe if we are lucky then Hataraku Saihou BLACK gets his own anime as well and there we have a much more realistic take on the cells lifes (and deaths).

Anyway I post those two pics I found, I don't think admins can ban me for those adorable pics^^

Spoiler for White Blood Cells starting school <3:

Spoiler for The whole WBC gang is together <3:
