I like how they subverted the trope if the white knight character being annoying by making him actually an useful and bro character.
Good job Emil.

The fight was well animated, sure the studio put effort against the fallen.

Agree, Emile was quite bro this episode: the fact that he was fighting the Fallen seriously despite his usual declarations of being an ally of women was kinda awesome, and shows that he's more than just a fop.

Also, I like that when Rem walked into Shera seducing Diablo, she hit Shera with a flying kick. Usually in these kinds of scenes in anime it's the males that get hit for being a "pervert" despite being completely innocent, whereas here Rem knew who the true target was.

One scene that was hilarious to me this episode: when Diablo performed White Nova, and that small ball of light showed up the I thought he somehow botched the casting or that he was out of energy. Then it suddenly touched the ground and it showed what the real ability actually was

I'm kind of glad Emile lived up to my expectations. He's an idiot, but he's a good guy as well. Couldn't beat his opponent, but he held out long enough. Stuck to his beliefs and was prepared to go out defending others. Certainly more respectable than the Fallen who enjoyed brutalizing others but when the tables turned couldn't go down with any self-respect.

An interesting point of Diablo's MP not exactly being fast to recharge. So makes sense why presently and likely into the future he's not eager to go all out. The white nova attack was pretty awesome. His legend is just going to continue growing. Props to Edelgard for surviving that attack. And in some ways credit to Diablo for being willing to attack her seriously instead of trying to expand his harem. That may end up happening anyways if she decides he's a demon lord she'd rather serve, but at the time he was focused on dealing with the immediate issue and then going to save Rem.

Fun episode as a whole.

Warriors that can endure 1 killing move are always annoying if you ran out of energy.

Diablo is kinda pragmatic when fighting.

I wonder if people might start taking his claims of Demon Lordship more seriously now?

Also the Elves in this world seem to be much more highly sexed then usual. Shera is basically walking around with a big "fuck me" sign over her head and her brother is getting ready to start a war to get some.

Emile is an idiot but he's a good guy idiot and good showing from him too.

White Nova was awesome, studio animators always seem to go for 'small harmless energy ball causes huge explosion' I saw the same thing waaay back with Bleach.

Emile may be an idiot, but he's an honest idiot with his heart in the right place.

Diablo's MP taking a long time to recover does introduce a nice limitation and an explanation for why he can't always go all out.

I rather enjoy the effects of MP loss here. Initial vertigo and mental fatigue followed by extended periods of apathetic lethargy. On one hand it's a very amusing result. On the other it's surprisingly clever, demonstrating an unusually close connection between one's MP and one's mental fortitude. Only other one I can think of that really suggested this was DanMachi with their "Mind Down" and "Mind Zero" states.

As I suspected... He could have just destroyed the bridge after all

Well normally, if you're trying to defend something you usually don't destroy it first, like how you don't drop a bunker buster on top of a building to save the hostages inside. Diablo only resorted to using White Nova once he realized he had to deal with the situation on his end quickly.

And of course, there is the MP issue to worry about.

Yeah, a few reasons one wouldn't immediately resort to reshaping the local geography . It's not like a game where he can see levels and stats when looking at people. If even a handful of the enemies in that army or Edelgard herself was stronger than he thought then he'd be rather vulnerable after dropping a massive attack like that. Not like it appears he's tested what happens when you seriously use up your MP in that world either. Playing it conservatively until that wasn't an option makes sense.

He was probably right to play it cautiously anyways. He handled everything, but definitely wasn't quite at his best for days afterwards.

The music this ep, specifically the one that played after Diablo appeard in town after having used "Return" triggered nostalgia within me. I felt like I traveled back in time to when I used to play Warcraft 2.

It's also worth noting that Diablo is used to seeing his magic's effects in a game where terrain destruction isn't a thing. If bridges and buildings and landscapes got wiped out every time somene threw a spell at them, the game would quickly become unplayable. Even when he used White Nova, he wasn't thinking of destroying the bridge, he was thinking of killing Edelgart and most of her army to intimidate the survivors into retreating.

It's like Diablo/Takumi has a dual personality.
While he acts tough on the outside, and he acts kind of soft inside.
He finally let out of his true voice for Rem and Shera to hear.

That last monster Diablo just destroyed, I wonder what level was it?
Emile, who level is around 50 to be easily beaten like that.
The other monster Diablo fought on the bridge was 80.

It was really overkill, leaving only one barely alive.

I can just picture the amount of griefing such a mechanic would cause

I'd say X-COM and Red Faction says otherwise, but well both of those didn't involve magical spells...

Many of the X-COM grenades may as well count as spells, with their area of effect and the burning, or melting, or freezing, or poisoning or ...

Is it too much to hope for a game that combines Battlefields terrain/building destruction with Fortnite's building/construction in a swords and magic setting? If they had 3 way team oriented combat and timed competitive game modes (like Splatoon)

Watched episode 4:

Enjoyed watching it. Emil true hero for women. Gregor assured doom for himself when he killed many people and let Diablo catch him.

Looks like Celes now believes Diablo is a real demon lord.
