Yuuichi = owned
There was so much foreshadowing here that I thought my head might explode. I have no idea what it's all about, but wow. They're getting less subtle about it, which may or may not be a good thing, but it does help it stick in your mind when you know it'll come up later. FPB is still loving this show to bits. |

Spoiler for hardly:
Maybe someone who made it further through the game can clarify this. I may have to play the game again soon using Haeleth's english patch but don't recall it being far enough along for me to gain any insight to what Shiroi was hinting to. Perhaps it never did. A minor plot point in my estimation. And it was frustrating last time I played through when it reverted to the Japanese, which I cannot read. Machine translation just doesn't do the game justice. |

Greetings, todkapuz ..... I spent the 80s working in Clear Lake so that flashed a few memories. The Ayu and Makoto implementations in this version of Kanon have been quite well done --- it'll be interesting to hear what first-timers say when its all over.
Now, off to browse for Mai art.....

I'll agree there. Already getting to see their charectors a little better, nice aspect of the longer format, not so much of a time consideration. I can't wait to see what they do with Mai. I have high hopes with Kyoani... they've done good so far in everything I've seen from them in the last few years. |

Well here goes at last.
So first things first before we really get started. These girls are really just way too cute for there own good aren't they. I'm going to break this down into two parts now, those being Presentation and Character/Plot Development. Presentation: What I like for certain was the music in the series, which reminds me of the composition from Chrono Cross. It doesn't lay it on heavey like series such as Shuffle!, but uses unintrusive harmless background music when the time is right, such to evoke a certain mood. I really love the ending and I like the opening as well, but I've actually listened to this ending at the end of every episode and only listened to the opening this one time. The art is of course excellent as well and combined The music and art side of the presentation gets definitely gets a five out of five. Onto the voice acting. All the girls are excellent, specifically Shiori, but I absolutely positively cannot stand Sugita Tomakazu's voice. He either sounds like he is giving a cold read, or is far to impressed with him self at all times and its really annoying when I know Yuuichi is not supposed to be sounding like an arrogant jerk yet Tomakazu can't not do that. I'm going to give the voice acting a 3 out of 5 because of Tomakazu and if he didn't talk at all it would very likely get a perfect 5. As it stands Tomakazu can only hurt this series for me. So overall the presentation gets an 8 out of 10. Character/Plot Development: I hate to do this, but after Yuuchi meeting each of these girls at least a couple of times we haven't learned much about any of them beyond some of their personality quirks and base character traits, thus I have to give the plot part a 0 out of 5 as it did not move forward at all this episode. I know for a fact this will change eventually, so as I break down my reviews expect to see 3's 4's and even 5's out of 5 in this category. Onto Character. This is a different part from above as I feel the Plot is tied into the characters, but the Character being the stuff they do in the episode is the Character part of the equation versus what we know of them, which is the Plot side. I know I've confused myself with this, but I can't really explain it any better. There were some genuinely funny and cute moments in this episode such as Yuuichi dropping the food product down Makoto's pajama's and her freaking out and bouncing off the walls. Also Makoto's constant slapping of Yuuichi was kind of funny based on the fact it was so uncalled for and left him speechless more than a few times. Shiori's scene also was nice even if kind of pointless and I'm fairly curious to learn more about her. Also I want to be glomped by Ayu as it looks kind of fun. . Ahem... so because of the characters being somewhat lovable if a bit devoid of development, I'm going to give this part a 4 out of 5 giving the section a total of 4 out of 10 Once we add the 4 and the 8 we get 12 out of 20 which breaks down to a 6 out of 10. Not too shabby and quirky like a Seinfeld episode, but not really interesting either in terms of plot advancement. I'm sure this will change as the series goes on, but unfortunately I don't plan on watching episode 4 until at least Thursday evening. So that's that then. Sock it to me if you want. |

Believe it or not, this reading of Yuuichi is pretty close to the game dialog (a bit cocky, witty to the point of smartass). You may also be corrupted by having heard Sugita's other acts (and frankly, Kyon is a parody of the Yuiichi archetype. His other characters have varying levels of sarcastic wit and it seems he may be enroute to be typecast --- though I'll say his performance when things get really tragic in this series seemed really good and showed he can do something other than sarcastic).
Interesting comments on the development and the characters ... actually thats one reason I've been hesitant to get my family to commit time to watch this --- it is a slow slice'o'life start and doesn't immediately rivet the viewer like some series. I'm saying that though I dearly love the show.
