Im 22, I still can't believe I've been an active anime watcher for 9 years (+1 year for watching Saint Seiya at age 8, but didn't watch any other anime afterwards until I was 13 with DBZ)
Seems 15-19 and 20-24 range is the most populated area for anime watchers |

Don't be too sure. At least one member of a well-known fansubbing group claims to be 63, and I believe her. Those of us like Vexx, Goofus Maximus, and myself really are the ages we claim (we're all over 50). There's nothing wrong with being older and liking anime. In the past year or two there have even been shows aimed at older viewers, but sadly not this fall.

People who are 20+ can enjoy seinen shows as well as people who are 40~50+. Anime doesn't really have an age restriction, so they aren't necessarily aimed for a certain age group, and that's what seinens are like. If you are mentally matured enough to get the meaning, then you can what almost every seinen out there. As for shows for even younger people, the fact that it's aimed for them doesn't mean that you can't watch them (there are fewer probabilities of liking them but it's not forbidden). |

Of course it doesn't. I just wanted to disabuse some of our younger members of the notion that people my age don't watch anime.
Some of the best shows I've watched were designed for children, or perhaps better, for "family" audiences. I'd put Seirei no Moribito and Dennou Coil in that category among current offerings. I've also enjoyed shows like Mahou Shoujo Tai Arusu (aka Tweeny Witches) or Angelic Layer, despite their clear targeting at children. Still I think that it would be harder to connect with some of the more melancholy episodes of Bartender without more life experience than most teens have. It's also hard to appreciate fully the struggles that Hiroko faces in Hataraki Man without some experience in the workplace. I'm not saying that intelligent, sympathetic young people couldn't understand these shows, rather that they simply may resonate more with people with a bit more "mileage" on their tires. @Ledgem: I didn't name anyone on purpose and don't intend to name anyone now.

i'm 23.. and sometimes i feel really old(seeing all those "youngins"(14+) party all night long etc...)
here around it seems like only kids up to 14/15 watch anime, reading manga is really rare,.. next thing is: they only watch it on german tv, so its all about pokemon, digimon, yugioh, dragonball and naruto(both terribly censored! they cut every punch/hit and theres no blood or at least they color it yellow etc.. and then they never say "kill" its only "i will beat you!" never "i kill you", which is ridiculous³)... so its hard to find anyone to speak about better stuff, or japanese versions, as example: only 2 of my friends(21 and 29) watch anime(japanese original versions) |
