It'd be interesting to see an Eva six months after EoE. >.>
If I weren't so weirded out, I would have raged at the ending when I saw it. xD That's only immediate post-viewing rage though. I'm just greatly annoyed now. A follow-up would have been greatly appreciated. <_< |

One of the bigger theories out there is the Rebuild movies are EXACTLY that: set several generations (we're talking multiples of scores here) after EoE, if only to show that the bad and really stupid things go around in a cycle. Kaworu's lines, let me tell you, do NOT help any.

Rebuild 3.0 and Rebuild 4.0 were planned to be shown back-to-back, but that was when they were first green-lighted as being an hour in length, each (so if worst comes to worst, they could be shown alongside another animated movie, ala Keroro Gunso). However, given that they're estimated to now be as long as Rebuild 2.0 each, no one is really sure.

Even if that's what it officially was, that's not what I want. I want to see something close enough to the event that it's still affecting people, but far enough into the future that people are trying to move on with their lives. Or better yet, they're still trying to establish what moving on is. |

As for the movies, with the direction they are going, no one knows what will happen really. All that is promised is a new ending from a non-depressed Anno.

I'm going to laugh so hard if the non-depressed ending we get is more messed up than the depressed one. In fact, I'll be slightly sad if that isn't the case. xD |

It'd be fair to issue a warning, though - ANIMA is mostly Ikuto Yamashita's playground since it is serialized in a hobby magazine and thus allows him to create whatever designs he wants before integrating it in the scenario, regardless of whether the plot blends in with the original universe's feel.
While it does provide good breeding grounds for mouthwatering scenes (1 / 2), as well as increasingly audacious and radical mecha designs (1 / 2 / 3), I keep hearing here and there that the story's a bit on crack, though it has started to integrate things from the Rebuild movies, such as Spoiler:
