I suppose if you could somehow force her to remember her biological parents, but remember, she was only 4 when she lost them, and 15 years have passed since then. She doesn't have much memory of them at all, which is why she can forget them.

You can request a ground-based posting, which would normally be a staff job: Lindy's job, doing administration and stuff, is what is called a staff assignment. I use it in my Macross OC work as well, where several years after Space War I, Jack Anderson accepts a promotion and a move to a staff officer job in order to be able to spend more time with his family.

Depends, really. Some people choose a staff stream from the very beginning, like supply officers and intelligence officers and admin personnel. Others are line officers - ie those on the frontlines - who are rotated groundside for staff tours; current US practice is to mix combat duty with staff duty in aims to produce well-balanced officers. For example, Delta Force founder Charlie Beckwith was on a staff assignment prior to forming Delta Force. From what I can see, Leti started in the staff stream from the start, but I'm not too sure about Lindy.

To some extent, however, when you get General's or Admiral's stars, you're looking at a staff job, simply because there arent' that many line commands to go around.

Nope it has not, and in fact, I have 2 whole magic schools that qualify for those descriptions:

In Chinese they would be called Tangcheng (The City of Tang - STOP LAUGHING!

).

But a more fitting name would've been something along with Kingdom (Guo). I've had Sanguo (Three Kingdoms), Zhongguo (Middle Kingdom), Tianjie (Heavenly Kingdom), Wangguoxing (Kingdom Hearts)...

Like the quest for Eldritch, no bloody winner. Tang Dynasty was based off warped Chinese history making the Dynasty of the Golden Age of China beyond godlike, but the stupid TANG label...

Heck, if Tang is taken as an Evangelion ref, I'll just accept it as a mecha ref and hence in-universe.

On second thought, maybe Tianjie works, and they are then the Tian Empire in Midchilda tongue, the soldiers are Tianjun (Heaven's Army), with the base unit known as Skywarriors (a play on the Tian radical) and the Ethereals are Xianren (Celestial Beings - STOP LAUGHING ALREADY!!!).

And lets not forget the little empress everyone loves: Yuhou Tianzi (Jade Empress Tianzi)

Ah, correction. They disbanded themselves so they could go undercover on Thyferra and give the Republic plausible deniability, I think. I've only read the Wraith Squadron trilogy and Starfighters of Adumar so I'm not 100% sure of this. After the Bacta War, I think it was Janson who assumed temporary control over the Rogues while Wedge took off to play with the Wraiths for a few books.

General Zead Norton is one of the Aces of the previous generation, now mostly retired to a desk job thanks to extensive linker core damage. At just under 50 years old, he’s a relic of Regius’s era with considerable political power whose efforts led to the implementation of the Neo-Belka system as a standard training option for new recruits. This was accomplished with assistance from Hayate and the Wolkenritter, as the most skilled Belkan Knights in the TSAB helped Zead to fill in the holes in his training program. (Note that Zead didn’t invent the Neo-Belka system, just the training methods which allowed it to become a valid option to rival the Mid system in basic combat training)

Zead’s previous command was the special weapons and tactics group known as Durandal, whose achievements included the invention of armor devices and various innovations in anti- mass-weapons spells and AMF tactics. The group was disbanded once the Neo-Belka system became wide-spread among TSA forces.

When Hayate announces her intentions to create Riot Force Six, she goes to Zead for advice on getting the unit together; Hayate served under Zead during the Arcadian Incident and maintained close connections with him afterwards. Knowing the kind of uphill political battle Hayate is going to be fighting to get this unit started, Zead joins up with the founders of RF6, throwing in his political capital as well as his advice.

RF6 will be lead by Zead, who is a greatly-respected general, instead of Hayate, who is new to the system and lacks Zead’s experience (Hayate’s desire to lead the unit is not so strong that she will pass on the chance to support her friends on the battlefield if that chance is given). Hayate will lead a unit of forwards alongside Nanoha and Fate, leading to three units in total; Stars, Lightning, and Blade squads.

Aside from its’ short-term objective of securing the Relics, RF6’s long-term goals are aimed at criminal investigations and cases involving Lost Logia, which pits them directly against the Carpathan Syndicate and Jail’s co-conspirators. A small, elite, highly-mobile unit like RF6 can accomplish a lot of things that larger units—like the majority of the ground forces—can’t, or can do them more quickly and efficiently. This doesn’t dispel jealousy amongst the higher-ups, but it does justify the unit’s continued existence after Jail’s plans are foiled.

The structure of Blade squad is composed of former members of Durandal as well as Hayate and Zafira. Squad structure is as follows:
Blade 1: Hayate Yagami
Blade 2: Zafira
Blade 3: Alexander Crestwood
Blade 4: Iris

Spoiler for Alex, his fighting style, and some of his impacts on the StrikerS timeline:

Alex is secretly the exiled prince of his home planet of Arcadia. The so-called Arcadian Crisis began when Arcadia first came into contact with TSA scout ships after nearly two centuries of dimensional isolation after the fall of the Belkan Empire. The planet is in dire straits after trade with the rest of the empire was cut off and the planet fell into a seemingly never-ending economic collapse. The peace between the magic-using knights and the common people is maintained by the presence of mass-based weapons, which help somewhat to keep the knights from being too powerful in the eyes of the planet’s non-magical population. When the royalty begin to take steps to integrate the planet into the TSAB, word somehow gets out that part of the process involves the banning of mass-based weapons. The outraged masses begin an uprising without having all the facts, and are aided by the instigators who triggered the uprising; the Carpathian Syndicate, most likely Skane and/or Jail Scaglietti if one wishes for a specific name. The TSAB responds by sending emergency aid to the Arcadian royal family, but all save for Alex are slaughtered before help arrives. Alex is rescued by the Aces and integrated into bureau forces even as agents of the Carpathian Syndicate take over Alex’s place on Arcadia’s throne. The bureau’s offers of aid are rebuffed by the new rulers, and the planet becomes a hotspot in the interdimensional black market. The bureau can’t do much at this point, as they have no right to interfere in the affairs of non-administered planets unless aid is asked for by the leading authorities… which Alex isn’t.

Alex’s status as exiled royalty is alluded to a few times throughout StrikerS, the most notable hint being the changes to his speech patterns when his sense of honor is offended; he starts talking extremely arrogantly, insulting his adversary for their lack of honor, mocking the utterly pitiful state of their combat skills, etc. Basically, he sounds like he’s been hanging around Vegeta too much. This gets him into trouble all the time whenever Zead isn’t around to reign him in. This “second persona” is referred to as Prince Alex.

Alex doesn’t reveal himself as outright royalty until the battle for Long Arch and for Vivio, where he unveils his status as an S-rank knight for the first time and opens up a whole crate of whoopass on the Numbers and their Gadget forces.

To Otto: “Know my name and tremble, trash heap, for I am Alexandrei Mirai Crestwood, son of Lucian Treva Crestwood, the last true lord of the House of Arcadia. The blood of the Kaiser flows in my veins, and the blood of my foes drips from my blades. I am the crimson knight, forged of steel and fire. My swords are the Dragon’s Fangs, baptized in the blood of my enemies. My title is Ace of Blades, the Lord of the Edge. And who are you, cyborg, to think you’ve a prayer of besting me?”

Alex’s fighting style (Mirage Blade) is a spin-off of traditional Belkan swordfighting which originated on Alex’s home planet; the focus is on melee combat, but the specific style emphasizes the usage of evasion and powerful “instant kill” spells. This isn’t so much a separate magic system as it is a combat style like the Shooting Arts used by the Nakajima siblings.

The idea behind the style is the usage of speed and evasion to dodge enemy attacks, then exploiting openings in the enemy’s defenses to land an attack which is more or less guaranteed to finish an enemy mage with a single blow. This is most effective against other Belkan Knights, and decidedly less so against Mid mages who can fight outside the knight’s effective attack range. Alex uses a hybrid style which uses Neo-Belka techniques to counter ranged attackers; his instant kill technique is a magic-boosted (shield-piercing) version of the Hiratsuki technique used by the Shinsengumi, a piercing attack which can quickly turn into a slashing attack in one fluid motion. Using this attack, Alex can chew through melee-oriented mooks like a lawnmower, but ranged foes and anyone above A-rank will be more or less immune to this attack’s Instant Kill status by virtue of their much stronger barrier jackets and differing combat tactics.

Due to Alex and Iris’s presence on the battlefield, the confrontation at Hotel Augusta goes off without a hitch; the Forwards are under a bit less pressure to hold the line, and Teana isn’t forced into using her overpowered Crossfire Shoot and nearly killing Subaru. The ensuing angst and the Training Incident are avoided, but Teana’s insecurities eventually come to the surface after a chance encounter with the Enforcer who dragged Tiida Lanstar’s name through the mud. He’ll be eating his words by the end of the series.

The confrontation with Tiida’s superior occurs shortly before the HQ attack while the Forwards are on break in Kranagan City proper. As Tiida’s former superior rips on the Lanstar name right in front of Teana, Prince Alex loses his temper and decks him clear across the room, denouncing the bastard for not being willing to die in Tiida’s place; “He was ten times the mage you could ever dream of being, worm. Now crawl on the ground and grovel before the last to bear the Lanstar name.” The ensuing barroom brawl ends with Alex being temporarily relieved from active duty and confined to base, excluding him from the defense of headquarters… but rendering him available to defend Long Arch during the HQ attack.

Among the members of RF6, Alex is unique in that he is the only member below the level of Vice Captain who requires a limiter; he is usually an S-rank, with his limiter knocking him down to AA-rank. Alex’s limiter control is held by Zead, and it is much easier for Alex to get his limiter released than it is for the Aces, since he has a history of working in the ground forces and is deemed “more trustworthy” than mages from the Main or Air Force branches (mind you, this is in spite of his history of being hot-headed and disrespectful to his superiors). He usually keeps the limiter in place because it makes his adversaries more of a challenge.

Alex’s habit of operating with a limiter in place at all times will ultimately be the downfall of Jail’s plans in MSLN BladeS. Jail bases his plans on the data he obtains from the Aces and the Forwards during his observations early in StrikerS and, presumably, from his earlier encounters with the Aces during the timeskip (the Fate Incident for instance). But since Alex operates under a limiter for the entire time Jail is observing RF6, the fact that he is an S-rank comes as a horrific surprise when the Numbers attempt to reclaim Vivio during the HQ attack. While Alex alone cannot stop the Numbers, he, Shamal, and Zafira stall them long enough for Erio and Caro to return to base. Voltair finishes what Alex started, and without Vivio to start up the Cradle, everything goes to hell in a handbasket for Jail once the bureau recovers from the attack.

Weeeeeell..... there's this one idea I've been toying with....

The Jail we see in StrikerS? He's a clone of the original, who's sitting back and watching the fun from several dimensions away. The first four cyborgs are the servants of this original Jail, who are there to make sure the clone does what the original wants him to do. The other Numbers are less ruthless and therefore are redeemable by Nanohaverse standards, but when things go south for the clone, Uno, Due (after offing the council), Tre, and Quattro will stab him in the back and leave him for the bureau to find. What happens after this is anyone's guess, but the original isn't going to just give up on Vivio just like that. The Cradle remains safely hidden, and Vivio's relic goes with Quattro. There remains the problem of what Zest and company are going to do once everything is over, but for the time being this is the most likely scenario.
