Preserving partial transparency from png to gif
Programs: Photoshop and GIMP. GIMP will be covered second as the programs can do this independently and I'm not as proficient with GIMP. I just think the gif layout for GIMP is better than Photoshop's so I use both when making gif avatars/signatures. Paint is optional. Operating system: Windows 7 --- Let's compare an image I extracted, png vs gif format.
First, we need the color of the background where the image will be placed on. This is why this method 'locks' the image, different forums have different backgrounds. Get a screenshot and use the color picker to get the background you want. If you have a program that saves it instantly to your computer where you can load it into photoshop/GIMP immediately, that's great. However, I'll be doing the traditional print screen method and then pasting into paint for those who don't know how to/don't have the program. Now we'll compare png, gif with stroke and gif.
GIMP later, I have to eat now. Edit: Comparing the three of them again, this time the gif with stroke from GIMP.
Now you might say, "What if I want something like your current signature? The stroke looks weird when intersecting with the animation." When deleting the extra part from the frames, turn off the stroke before using it as your deleter. After that, turn it back on and merge down the first frame of animation which will overlap with the stroke. Example (lazy to get the same gif, using random one. ): I know, the strap could use more cleaning.

I haven't done this in a while (years), but I've had a sudden spur of PS energy. It's made in a rush, but it at least show some techniques I personally use, and it isn't meant to reproduce the exact same thing. Source and renders are up to the person.

GIF creation question
I've been trying to learn how to make GIFs using Photoshop then I encountered this problem. I couldn't figure out myself how the person who created it did this.
http://i.imgur.com/6E2E5J8.gif I took frames of this whole scene using KM Player and ended up having 89 frames. The GIF I linked above has only 16 frames. The obvious answer would be he deleted frames but what I don't know is how he was able to pick frames so that it would look like it's "continuous" and not just "repeating over and over". I mean, is there some sort of way to able to do that? Or it's just a simple matter of trial and error? |

show me your gif. put it on something like mediafire if file is too large.
animation like that usually looping by itself. you just need to find 2 frame that is same. keep everything in between and cut the rest |

the gif "loop" from frame 1 to 56 (they are similar). so you can remove frame above 56
then just remove frame that look similar. for example frame 1,2, & 3 look similar. just remove frame 2 and 3. do it for other one easy way to cut frame |

What I want to know tho is how exactly you did it? Did you just simply check the GIF frame by frame? Or there is a more specific way of figuring it out? I've been doing this one specially on GIFs where in the only thing that moves is the hair part of the subject. In GIFs like this, there are a lot of exactly the same frames. |

just remove the duplicated frames and add time in between like for example 1sec into 2secs. do it trial & error until you came up with the same flow",
edited: do not follow the example by removing to much frames, just remove the repeated frames unless you have purpose for a lesser frames.
