The worst episode of the season is behind us. Gabi is such a pointless character, she's just going through the same thing Reiner did except everything is abridged and heavy handed.
Not easy to voice such a hated character.

Reiner's motivation was to be with his family, to also be accepted by his father. He didn't have much talent and became a warrior purely out of luck. In Paradis, he was confronted with the people not being as evil as he was led to believe. Having killed so many innocents and failed his mission, and no one being in a similar situation as him (or anyone he can talk to about it) he's left to cope with it all by himself making him depressed and suicidal. You could say that so far his life has been a failure. Gabi's motivations are more noble, in what drives her is trying to prove to the world that there are good Eldians, and that Eldians are being hated so much is by those on Paradis. She's the most talented candidate, but like Reiner deeply manipulated. Her story right now is trying to reason her convictions with reality, being confronted with the fact that the world isn't as black and white as she thought it was. Still similar in a way to Reiner, but she hasn't committed genocide yet. Reiner's past the point of return, in which he realised what he did was wrong, but that he had to live with it and kept on going with the mission because someone had to do it. Gabi's currently in a position where she can still be 'saved'. And also we need Marley to launch a surprise attack on Paradis and not wait for six months. And it just so happens that the last two warrior candidates are in Paradis, which they cannot afford to lose. And Falco is in love with her, otherwise he wouldn't be in Paradis right now. And I really am curious in how they plan on wrapping up the Anime, because when I see how much Manga content there is left to show I don't see how they can possibly fit all of it in the few episodes that are still left. It would be great if the Anime and Manga end at the same time, so that neither follower knows how it ends until the last moment, but I don't really see that happening right now. And it would be weird to claim 'The final season!', only for it to end half-way and continue in autumn. |

Gabi is an unlikable character all right, but I don't think she's pointless. She serves the purpose of incarnating the kind of people that can only think about their own perspective and are incapable of seeing the perspective of others. She can only see what the enemies have done but she can't see what her side has done. She rationalize her hatred by considering what the others have done in the past, but she never stops for a second to think what her side has done and is still doing. Conversely Falco represent those who understand all of this, but are unable to change anything because their companions just can't listen to them. And the author is using this to show us how this is tied to people eventually waging war against each others.

I don't remember how it was in the manga, but the protesters being like 20 at best was pretty ridiculous. Didn't really convey the fact tons of regular people also support Eren.
Anyway, we're finally here. Now is when it truly begins.

Anyone thinking that Isayama may have drawn inspiration from the last days of the Taishou era, when gungho young soldiers were plotting coups while the crowd was drunk on the nationalist koolaid?

No episode today due to an earthquake in Japan. They said they'd release more info tomorrow, but I expect it to be postponed a week like what happened with World Trigger a few weeks back.
As a side note, the difference between the reactions on Wakanim (french)'s twitter and Crunchyroll's are just... wow. We're such selfish assholes

Odd, when I look it up the earthquake didn't hit until 12:25am. AOT is supposed to air at 12:10am.
Also, reports are it wasn't especially strong. Reports suggest no damage was likely to have occurred beyond things falling from shelves or broken windows. |

We're getting two episodes next week, also as thundrakkon mentioned most of the episode aired last night that's why there are still plenty of screenshots and videos from the episode so if you're an anime only and want to stay spoiler free you might want to avoid social media for a while.

Postponing the episode a week when 80% of it already aired and is readily available on the internet is a bit of an odd decision. Isn't this show on any streaming service in Japan? Put the episode there and let simulcasters do the same, then air the two episodes back to back on TV this Sunday.

Well, I've come to the conclusion that everyone in the show has their bad and good parts. I'm not really sure which side to root for at this point. However, that indoctrination of the new recruits by the Jaegerist to beat up the old is very reminiscent of what the communists in the early 20th century did, so that really rubbed me the wrong way.
A lot was uncovered in the past 2 episodes, but the Ackerman blood following the orders of the royals and protecting them made me think. Well, at least think about Levi. Why isn't Levi protecting the royals and following their orders? Especially, why is he not obeying Zeke and actively trying to kill Zeke and possibly Eren? He is an Akerman, afterall. On that note, RIP Levi. You were cool, but turned into quite the A-hole in the end... well, even more than you were before. Well, at least it seems like you're dead.

And how is Levi an asshole? His grievances against Zeke are completely legitimate. And he was against sacrificing Eren, preferring to get Zeke eaten to foil their plan instead. Sure, after episode 15/74, Zeke is a lot more sympathetic, but he still killed most of Levi's friends.

LOL Levi has always been an a-hole, with some good spread around once in awhile. I'm not sure he is against Eren getting sacrifice, since he stated that "Eren's not the only one to have an appointment with a Titan's mouth." That statement infers as in additional to, not instead of. Although Zeke might not be a good guy, wanting to chop off the guy's limbs is not something a nice person would do, and this was before anything happened to Levi's "friends."

Levi didn't want to chop Zeke's limbs out of pure sadism, he knows that's the only way to be sure he can't turn into a titan. His methods may be brutal but he's not the type of person that unnecessarily want people to suffer, even if it's the worst kind of war criminal that doesn't have the slightest remorse for killing innocent people if it's to further his goals.

And sorry, but have you forgotten that Zeke killed almost the entire Survey Corps in season three, including Levi's best friend Erwin? Killing Zeke was the last promise he made to him too. The restraint he has shown is actually amazing.
