that is a side quest IMO, because that's purpose appear after He is enrolling in School, while the reason He enroll is Surpass His Dad by becoming First Seat.

being first seat also means nothing to his father since he wasn't one due to his tardiness and not doing paperwork. Gin was even teased his name being confirmed as "second best" because of Jōichirō 's talent.

@eiyuuou: Jouichirou didn't actually get to tell Souma that secret to becoming a great chef, since Souma had already hung up on him. Jouichirou told us the secret instead.

And let's wait and see for now if that Saiba guy is really Jouichirou. It could be someone else. Either someone using the name, someone who just happens to have the name, or perhaps a relative from Jouichirou's side of the family.

Honestly as to reasoning on why everyone has the seats that they have, I think we should just drop it. I mean, the Elite 10 has never been a credible source for power levels in this series and no amount of bringing the topic back will change it. Just say you agree/disagree with the seat choices and move on. It's been constantly referenced throughout the entire series that many of the seats past and present could have higher positions if they wanted to but they don't, so please, stop bringing up power levels into this series. Returning to the story, shouldn't be too surprising that one or 2 consequences of Jou's traveling would come back to bite our heroes.

Just finished the latest chapter.

I just assumed Eizan regained his E10 seat through shokugeki in the timeskip. Nothing much to complain about that.

So we're pretty much getting more info of Jou's family. Hope this ties in to the long-awaited Sou-Mom backstory.

Eizan and Nene probably have gotten better during the time-skip. Eizan might have started taking cooking more seriously and Nene might have stopped following her old ways.

I could see Subaru turning down the offer of a Elite Ten seat. When his shtick is about stalking and copying other chefs, having more resources at his disposal wouldn't add much to his abilities.
